Simple Dinner Recipe: Easy Breaded Pork Chops and Velveeta Macaroni and Cheese Bake

Simple Dinner Recipe: Easy Breaded Pork Chops and Velveeta Macaroni and Cheese Bake

Submitted by: Brandy Summers

When you don’t feel like making a big effort to make dinner for the night, you need a simple dinner plan that you can count on to deliver a tasty meal. There’s nothing easier to prepare than the humble pork chop.

Like chicken, pork chops are great for preparing cheap, easy meals that still have that good, old fashioned homemade taste. While plain pork chops are good, breaded pork chops are even better. But, at first, it may seem like a little too much work for a simple meal.

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to make breaded pork chops. As you’ll see in our Easy Breaded Pork Chops recipe, all you need is a package of chops, some flour, eggs, crushed crackers and some margarine.

Even someone who doesn’t cook much can whip up these chops in no time.

=> Easy Breaded Pork Chops

6 pork chops, 1/2 cup of flour, 2 eggs, beaten, 15 Ritz style crackers, crushed, 2 tablespoons of margarine.

Add the flour to a medium sized bowl. In another bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, add in the crushed crackers.

In a large skillet, melt the margarine over medium heat.

Coat each pork chop on both sides in the flour, then in the eggs, then dip in the cracker crumb mixture. Cook the chops on both sides until completely done and no pink is showing.

BONUS RECIPE

=> Cola Pork Chops

1 cup of ketchup, 1 cup of regular cola (any brand), 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 8 pork chops, salt and pepper to taste.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a bowl, combine the ketchup, cola and the brown sugar.

Place the pork chops into a baking dish and pour the cola mixture on top. Be sure to coat the chops well. Sprinkle the chops with salt and pepper.

Bake for 1 hour or until the chops are completely done.

Now, you need a great side dish to go along with your pork chops. Macaroni and cheese made with Velveeta cheese is a classic that many people love. Keeping with our simple dinner theme, all you need to make this delicious dish is a box of macaroni, some butter and flour, milk, and of course, Velveeta cheese.

=> Velveeta Macaroni and Cheese Bake

1 (16 oz.) box of Macaroni – uncooked, 1/2 cup of butter or margarine, 1/2 cup of all purpose flour, 4 cups of milk, 1 (14 oz.) package of Velveeta cheese, cut into chunks, salt and pepper to taste, 8 slices of Velveeta cheese.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 13x9-inch baking dish with cooking oil or spray.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to bubble and thickens.

Put in the chunks of Velveeta and allow them to melt. Add in the salt and the pepper.

Pour the uncooked macaroni into the baking dish, then pour the cheese sauce over the macaroni. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and place individual cheese slices on top.

Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or when you see that the cheese slices on top have melted. Allow dish to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

What You Need to Understand About the Treatment of Lymphoma

There is no doubt that cancer is one of the diseases that affect people most at the moment. There are several types of cancer and lymphoma is one of them.

There is no doubt that cancer is one of the diseases that affect people most at the moment. There are several types of cancer and lymphoma is one of them. Lymphoma affects the immune system that is known as the lymphocytes. Lymphoma represents different types of cancers that affect the cells that play a significant role in the immune system. There are two major types of lymphoma Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non Hodgkin’s lymphomas. It is easy to see the difference of these two types of lymphoma under the inspection of a microscope. There are five different types of Hodgkin’s lymphomas and 30 types on non Hodgkin lymphoma. This classification is extremely complicated because there are many types of lymphoma. The non Hodgkin’s types are more common than the Hodgkin’s type. The non Hodgkin’s type is common in older people while the Hodgkin’s type is common in children.

This cancer is detected by the swelling of lymph nodes or tissues that are located in different areas of the body. One such example is the swelling of the spleen. This might cause discomfort and abdominal pain. Fevers, chills and unexplained weight loss might also be signs of the lymphoma. Early detection will lead to the effective treatment of the lymphoma. The problem with finding treatment for lymphoma is the fact that it has many small types that manifest in different ways. This cancer is also very popular amongst people. Lymphoma is the most popular type of blood cancer and it affects children more that it affects any other group of people. Treatment of lymphoma like any other cancer is standardized but it is crucial to seek the advice of several oncologists while undergoing treatment of lymphoma. Hematology board review course has a thorough explanation of the types of lymphoma and even how to avoid them.

Treatment of lymphoma is done depending on the stage and the type of lymphoma.. Other factors such as age, health and prior treatment of lymphoma is vital. The decision of the type of treatment that patient needs to pursue is determined by the doctor and his team if he has one. The patient is also consulted on what treatment of lymphoma to use. The hematology board review course explains the advantages and side effects of each treatment. It is crucial to look at all these options for treatment of lymphoma before choosing the one that is comfortable for the patient. It is essential to understand the whole process of the treatment of lymphoma and this can only happen when the patient gets the knowledge from hematology board review course. If detected early, this cancer can be treated. The most popular treatment of lymphoma is a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The other treatment for lymphoma is biological therapy which uses the bodys’ in built ability to fight cancer.

Therapy can result in remission of the lymphoma. Remission is not cure of the cancer because while in remission patient may still have the cancer cells but not the effects of the cells. Remission can last permanently or for a few months depending on the type of lymphoma and the stage. The cancer can also improve, stay stable, progress or be refractory after the therapy. When the cancer has improved it means that the tumor has reduced to almost half its size. When it is stable, it means that the tumor remained the same size after the treatment. If it is in progress it means that the tumor continued growing while a refractory disease means that the tumor is resistant. When the cancer re- occurs we say there is a recurrence. Once the cancer is in remission the doctor might choose to follow up the therapy with a different type of treatment for lymphoma to avoid recurrence.

Healthiest Loser 21-Day Challenge

Healthiest Loser 21-Day Challenge

Submitted by: Lorraine Matthews Antosiewicz

I only dieted (I mean seriously dieted to lose weight) once in my life, and it was such a negative experience. I was starving all the time! I felt deprived and miserable and to make things worse, I lost maybe a pound. I look back on it now and think, “What was I thinking?” That was the problem; I wasn’t thinking. I felt stressed, overwhelmed, and unhappy with the way I looked. I mindlessly reacted to my feelings and put myself on a diet.

This happened right after my first baby was born 26 years ago. I was trying to adjust to my new life situation. I was learning how to nurse my newborn which didn’t come easy for me, dealing with the fact that I had a C-section, functioning on very little sleep, and I had to say good bye to my old life (and body).

When I finally got a few hours (in a row) of sleep, I came to my senses and realized that I wasn’t helping myself by dieting. So I stopped the calorie-counting and restriction, and stepped back to re-assess. I figured out that I was overeating in general as a way to comfort myself and I was consuming way too much sugar and half-n-half in my (many) cups of decaf tea.

I decided to make a few mindful changes. I cut back on the tea and drank more water; I tried to eat when I was hungry and stop when I was full; and I started getting outside more for long walks as a way to comfort myself rather than eating. Eventually, my baby and I settled into a new routine and I was able to get back to my usual healthy way of eating. I began to feel better and gradually lost most of the baby weight. It took more time than I wanted and required a strong commitment to my health. There were bumps in the road along the way, but I stayed with it.

Even though I lost weight, my body had changed the way most women’s bodies change after child birth. I had stretch marks, scars, saggy skin, and more wrinkles than before. It was hard for me to come to terms with this, but once I made peace with my “new” look, I felt even better.

I learned these three important lessons back then and they continue to hold true today …

First lesson – diets don’t work!

Second lesson – achieving and staying at my personal best weight requires commitment and dedication.

Third (and most important) lesson – my health and well-being are so much more important than the number on the scale.

Being healthy in our fast-paced world – with all its unhealthy temptations – is quite challenging. Rather than dieting, you need to develop a skill set of healthy habits. Think of this as SKILL POWER rather than will power.

If you want to achieve your personal best weight and stay there for good, focus on eating for optimal health. Use these five skills to eat better and feel awesome. Be a HEALTHY LOSER!

1. AVOID FOODS WITH ADDED SUGAR OR ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS

The easiest and most basic way to immediately reduce the amount of sugar you’re consuming is to stop adding it to your foods and beverages. If you’re hooked on sweetening your cereal, coffee or tea, it’s okay to give yourself time to ease out of the habit. For example, if you typically start your day with three spoons of sugar or honey in your tea or coffee, cut back to two spoons for a week, then one spoon, and eventually sweeten your beverage with a slice of orange or a little milk. Gradually reducing the amount can make it easier to tolerate and you may be less likely to experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, and mood swings. However, if prefer the cold-turkey approach, go for it! The sooner you slash sugar from your diet, the quicker you’ll stop craving it.

To distinguish added sugars from naturally-occurring sugars in the food you eat, start by reading the ingredient lists. You’ll need to be a clever food detective since there are more than 60 different names for the sugars used in processed foods and beverages. And they’re all pretty much the same thing as far as your body is concerned – not healthy. Once you become familiar with all the different names for added sugars, go through your pantry and fridge. Get rid of everything that has any form of sugar listed as one of the first three ingredients, or if sugar is listed more than once on the ingredient list. Throw it away and don’t buy it ever again!

2. EAT MOSTLY HOMECOOKED MEALS

Preparing your own food is a healthier option. Simple, wholesome, home-cooked dinners take only about ten minutes longer to prepare, on average, than serving heavily processed food, ready-made dinners, take-out, or restaurant meals. Make enough for leftovers and you’ll end up saving time.

3. EAT VEGGIES OR FRUIT WITH EVERY MEAL

Vegetables and fruit provide you with important vitamins, minerals and fiber. They have very few calories and will help fill you up at meals which supports permanent weight loss. Here are a few simple ways to do this.

For breakfast, have a veggie omelet, plain yogurt or oatmeal with sliced fruit, or an apple with nut butter. At lunch, have a big salad topped with beans or eat a half sandwich with a salad and a piece of fruit. At dinner, make sure your plate is at least 50 percent salad, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, or whatever veggie you choose. This ensures that you get enough nutrients and automatically reduces the amount of fat and calories you consume (provided you don’t go crazy with fatty dressings and toppings).

4. HYDRATE WITH WATER

Humans need water to survive and be healthy. That’s a fact. Water plays an important role in weight control as well. Drinking an adequate amount of water has been shown to cause a mild increase in metabolism so you burn more calories throughout the day. And if you drink water about a half hour before meals, you’ll automatically eat fewer calories. In addition, staying well hydrated will keep your hunger cues in check.

Water requirements vary depending on age, gender, body size, health status, and physical activity levels. Numerous environmental factors, such as the temperature, also influence water needs. As a general recommendation, aim for 8 – 10 cups/day. However, let your thirst be your guide. Quenching your thirst by sipping throughout the day is the best way to stay well hydrated.

Without a doubt, drinking water is the best way to hydrate your body. Making your own flavor-infused water is an easy and tasty way to liven up plain water. Start with water or seltzer and flavor it by adding fresh herbs (e.g., mint, lavender, ginger, basil), pieces of fruit (e.g., lemon, lime, orange, watermelon, berries) or even slices of cucumber.

5. DON’T SKIP MEALS

Skipping meals can slow down your metabolism and cause you to be starving later on, which can ultimately lead to overeating and making poorer choices than you would have otherwise. When you graze throughout the day instead of eating three meals, you can easily lose track of what you’ve eaten and end up consuming too many calories.

In addition, skipping meals can make it hard to get the variety of foods and nutrients you need for good health. When you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, you are likely to choose different foods at each meal, providing overall variety.

Quick Easy Dinner Recipes: Garden Meatloaf and Low Fat Mashed Potatoes

Quick Easy Dinner Recipes: Garden Meatloaf and Low Fat Mashed Potatoes

Submitted by: Brandy Summers

When you’ve only got a few minutes to cook dinner and you don’t want to eat preservative laden pre-cooked meals, having a traditional meatloaf and mashed potatoes dinner is a great choice for a quick easy dinner meal.

Making an investment in several packages of ground beef, while shopping at your local supermarket, is a good idea as well. If you can catch a sale on beef, that’s even better. This way, when you need to put together a quick meal, you always know you can grab the ground beef and make a meatloaf.

This recipe for Garden Meatloaf uses a total of six ingredients. All you need is two pounds of ground beef, a small onion, some brown sugar, one egg, a jar of salsa and some dry bread crumbs. Most of these ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen or pantry.

You should also invest in a couple of loaf pans to make baking your meatloaf a piece of cake. You’ll create a mildly spicy loaf that is pretty tasty. This loaf takes about an hour to bake.

=> Garden Meatloaf

1-1/2 pounds ground beef chuck, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 egg, beaten, 1 (15 oz.) jar chunky salsa, 1-1/2 cups dry bread crumbs.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9x5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine the beef chuck, onion, brown sugar, egg, salsa and bread crumbs. Mix thoroughly with a large spoon or your hands.

Place the meatloaf mixture into the loaf pan; gently press down. Bake for one hour, or until the loaf is firm and lightly browned. Take loaf out of the oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

When having meatloaf, it’s hard not to think of having mashed potatoes as a side dish. Meatloaf just seems to taste better with fluffy potatoes. Since our Garden Meatloaf is pretty lean and healthy, we will continue this healthy theme to our mashed potatoes.

To save time, you can make the mashed potatoes while the meatloaf is in the oven cooking. These Low Fat Mashed Potatoes have a total of seven ingredients: baking potatoes, shallots, yogurt, salt and pepper, nutmeg and butter.

=> Low Fat Mashed Potatoes

2 pounds of baking potatoes, peeled and quartered, 2 large shallots, thinly sliced, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, dash of nutmeg (optional), 1-1/2 cup of butter, cut into 4 slices.

In a large saucepan, add in all of the quartered potatoes and the sliced shallots. Add enough cold water to the pan to cover the potatoes by one inch. Add in 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Bring potatoes to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover the pan and cook the potatoes for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they are tender. Reserve 3/4 cup of the cooking water. Drain the potatoes in a colander.

Return the potatoes and shallots to the pan and mash with a potato masher, until nice and smooth. With an electric mixer on medium setting, beat in the yogurt and enough of the reserved cooking water to make potatoes smooth and fluffy.

Beat in the remaining salt, pepper and nutmeg. If you wish to make the potatoes warm for serving, cook them over low heat, stirring occasionally, until they’re nice and hot. Serve with butter.

Your Body Is Precious – Make It A Priority

Your Body Is Precious – Make It A Priority

Submitted by: Susan Megge

If you were told that you could earn one million dollars simply by spending an hour each day working on a farm, would you do it? Let’s say you were offered free tickets – the best in the house – for your favorite artist, and a subsequent visit with that person if you would simply put five hours per week into something you’re not particularly fond of. Would you be tempted? My guess is that you answered yes to both of these questions.

My next question, then, is why wouldn’t you invest as much time in order to look good, feel good and very likely add longevity and an astonishing amount of quality to your life? I’m often quite surprised by the reluctance of so many women to commit to a regular regimen of exercise. It’s so very easy and there’s nothing negative that results in fitness, yet the majority of women simply have no desire to put a little effort toward doing so much good for their bodies, as well as their minds.

Most of us spend our days doing for others and we’re all entitled to some “me” time. While lounging on a couch may sound all too appealing for many women, believe it or not, with the right attitude, exercise can be even more appealing. If you take a moment to think about the benefits of a regular fitness schedule you may very possibly make the necessary adjustments to fit exercise into your daily routine.

Think very carefully about what it is that you get out of relaxing on the sofa for an hour or so. Yes, it may feel good for that short period of time, but is your relaxation time contributing to your self-esteem? Is it giving you a long-term burst of energy? Are you burning calories? Is your body showing any physical signs of improvement, such as lost inches or toned thighs? Nope! Nada! The only positive result of sitting during your “me” time is that you can say “Gosh, that felt good.”

By using valuable time for yourself being physically inactive, you’re actually creating potential problems – both physically and mentally. If you’re not regularly active – and I do mean through exercising with weight resistance to build muscle – you’re losing muscle mass, lacking energy and gaining fat. All of these results can lead to a very unhealthy state of mind, as well as numerous physical conditions.

So, step it up and get to the gym. Pretend that you stand to earn that million dollars or those great concert tickets. In reality, what you’re really gaining is so much more because you can’t put a price on physical and emotional fitness, beauty and overall good health.
