Try This Proven WayTo Lose Weight After 40

Try This Proven WayTo Lose Weight After 40
By Leon Edward

One method that's being used to fight the signs of aging and
increase your lifespan is following calorie restriction diets.
It is based on the he basic premise to severely limit caloric
intake without actually starving your system. Since this theory
is completely understood by the medical community, it is worth
considering as an anti aging diet. A respected gerontologist,
Doctor Roy Walford of the UCLA Medical, originally proposed the
theory. Dr Walford theorizes that calorie restriction will cause
people to lose weight to the point of metabolic efficiency which
in turn promotes optimal health especially anti aging health.

No Actual Starving just Super Reduction of Nutrition

Not only does calorie restriction extend a persons life in a
healthy way, but it will help prevent the onset of disease as
well. The thought behind this is that the anti-aging diet
reduces the amount of insulin the body produces, which lowers
the signs of aging. It is well known that excess insulin
production can speed the aging process with detrimental function
and appearance.

Another benefit of a calorie restricted diet is the resulting
lower oxidative stresses on your body. Benefits of antioxidants
has been widely communicated and you are sure to have heard of
them already. Increase the chances of good antioxidants and
decrease the chances of bad properties from entering your body
all by simply eating fewer calories but from quality foods. Of
course, this will help increase the body's overall wellness.

In order for calorie restriction to be effective, you will have
to work closely with a dietician to discover exactly which foods
you should avoid and which ones must be included in your
diet. With this diet, making the calories from the foods you eat
have value rather than cutting everything out is your prmary
focus.Empty caloric foods have no place in the diet.Choose a
nutrient rich wholesome diet rather than using meal replacement
solutions that don't have the same benefits most times. You
would also benefit from eating those foods that are considered
to be super foods; those with acceptable levels of calories and
high nutrient levels.

If you decide that calorie restriction is something you want to
implement, you should do so with the advice and help of your
physician. Remember, you are not trying to cut back on how much
you eat, but should take a good look at what you are eating.Your
focus should be on replacement of any higher calorie, bad foods
with the lower calorie nutritious foods instead as you certainly
won't starve yourself as some suspect.

This anti-aging, calorie restriction diet was theorized after
years of longevity and aging research with experiments with
animals by Doctor Walford. In addition to following the high-low
diet, he emphasized the importance of using vitamin and mineral
supplements along with moderate exercise, visit my anti aging
exercise on my website mentioned in bio below for further age
specific exercise and diet plans online . There have been a
number of follow-up studies conducted, most notably from Doctor
Sonntag and Wake Forest University School of Medicine researches
that indicate that calorie restriction can indeed extend the
life span.

Weight Loss : The Side Effects of Ephedra Supplements

Weight Loss : The Side Effects of Ephedra Supplements
By Mark Thomas Walters

People who are desperate to lose weight will try almost
anything to achieve that goal. Of the weight loss options
available, an Ephedra weight loss program is one of the worst.
This is not the healthiest way to lose weight for the reason
that Ephedra has many side effects. Ephedra is not a new
substance, and it is used in some treatments for asthma and hay
fever. Known more commonly among the Chinese as ma huang, an
Ephedra weight loss supplement works as a stimulant which
constricts your blood vessels, and increases your heart rate and
your blood pressure. Dietary supplements which contain Ephedra
have been linked to many deaths and many have serious side
effects. The side effects of Ephedra are the following:

Decreased Appetite - Having an appetite is natural, and it is
your body's way of telling you that you needs more food. By not
giving it food it will not be able to give you real and
substantive energy, and you will feel weak.

Anxiety / Psychosis - You will be confused, anxious and nervous
for no apparent reasons. Not only that, you may suffer from
hallucinations and see things that are not really there.

Tremors - You might start to shake and have nervous tremors
which will be apparent and depicted by shaking limbs.

Dry Mouth - Ephedra causes your mouth to constantly feel dry,
even if you drink lots of water. This can result in bad breath.

Urinating More Frequently - You will find that you have to go
to the restroom a lot more often that you are used to.

Kidney Stones - Some people who regularly use Ephedra found
that they developed kidney stones. This is thought to be because
of the bodily imbalances that Ephedra causes.

High Blood Pressure - Elevated blood pressure comes with taking
Ephedra as a diet drug, which means you will also feel all the
symptoms that people go through when they have high blood
pressure, such as shortness of breath, frequent headaches,
dizziness and palpitations.

Irregular Heartbeat - Ephedra affects your heart and causes it
to beat to irregular rhythms, even when you are not exercising.

As you can see, the price your health pays for taking Ephedra
is quite high. A better method of losing weight would be to eat
properly in sufficient amounts, as well as exercise daily.
Healthy ways of losing weight may take a little longer to
achieve results, but at least you can avoid unpleasant side
effects. There is a lot of misleading information around
regarding weight loss, and most of it comes from people who are
just trying to make money from you. What you need to do is read
weight loss reviews of the diet systems and supplements that are
available, and look for honest and unbiased testimonials. Online
forums, and blogs to a lesser degree, are a particularly great
resource for finding reviews for weight loss supplements,
products and diet systems. Try some Google searches for “weight
loss forums”, “weight loss reviews”, etc. and you will find lots
of good sources of information.

What Are Seasonal Allergies?

What Are Seasonal Allergies?
By Christine Crotts

Some people wonder why their allergies only act up during
certain parts of the year. Most people think that if they have
them that they will affect them all year around. Both of these
are common misconceptions. They most commonly depend on the
season. This article will describe the different types and how
they affect people.

Before getting into the different seasonal allergies it is
important to know what they are. They are caused by inflammation
in mucus membranes. These mucus membranes are on the inside of
the nasal passage. When the membranes become inflamed it causes
irritations. They are very common among people and, as stated
before, they can vary dependent on the season.

The first type is winter allergies. Winter allergies mainly
consist of animal, dust, and mold allergies. People are more
prone to be allergic to these things because they are likely
inside your home during the winter. During this time of year
things such as the furnace are constantly running which causes
an excess amount of dust. Mold is also common in warm palaces
therefore in the winter it will mostly grow in the house.
Animals, like the other two, are likely to be inside during the
winter months. Because of this your allergic reactions are more
likely to act up in the winter. This does not mean that you will
only sneeze and cough during the season, however it does mean
that you will most likely have worse experiences with allergies
during this time.

The next season is spring. During this time many people are
working outside in their flower beds getting ready for the nice
weather ahead. This season is not only good for planting; it is
also good for plants to grow. When they grow they release a
substance called pollen. Many people cannot tolerate pollen, and
most likely their condition will act up during this time of
year. Other things such as grass and weeds cause reactions and
are most likely to occur during this time.

This leads to the next topic, summer conditions. Summer
allergies are most commonly related to grass and weeds. During
this time grass and weeds grow at record speeds and this means
you will be cutting them down more frequently. When you cut the
lawn on a frequent basis, people are more likely to react to
them. For example, if after you cut your grass you come inside
with itchy watery eyes, you probably have them.

The last season of the year is fall. During this time many
people have this condition, however there are not normally as
severe. During this weather plants are more likely to begin to
die, therefore they are not releasing as much pollen. Some
things from the summer months may still bother you, for example
grass, but they are not likely to be as irritating.

Depending on what you suffer from you may experience any type
of these seasonal conditions. Seasonal allergies are very
common. It is important to be tested to see what you are
allergic to, so that you can take the proper treatments.

Thigh Exercises For Women

Thigh Exercises For Women
By Mike Umberger

Thighs form an integral part of the posture and figure of any
individual. Especially for the fairer sex, this part of the body
is instrumental in making the lower body more shapely and
attractive. Slender thighs along with a narrow waist are what
every woman dreams of. If you are one of them, and you don’t
have the time to go to a gym for a regular workout, you might
want to know about the exercises that will help you tone your
thighs at home. Most of these do not require any equipment.
However you will do well to hire a personal trainer for yourself
who can guide you through these exercises.

If you are serious about your training schedule and follow it
meticulously, you are likely to get visible results within four
to six weeks. As a supplement to the thigh exercises you need a
proper and balanced diet consisting of all the essential
nutrients and also a session of aerobic exercises. Being
particular about all these is very important if you want to
realize the dream of having shapely and eye-catching thighs.

Following are four main exercises that you can start with:

Lunges: This is an exercise for the front thighs. Here you need
to stand with your feet shoulder width apart from each other.
Place a barbell from one corner to the other of your shoulders.
Once you are in this position, take a deep breath and keep your
back straight while moving forward with one leg. Take a long
step so that the knee of the other leg nearly touches the
ground. If you cannot do this initially, start with as much as
you are comfortable with. Slowly exhale and come back to the
original position. Repeat this as required. It’s best to do this
exercise everyday till you reach the point where you can touch
the ground with your rear knee.

Lying Face Down: This is a stretch exercise for the frontal
region of the thighs. The starting position is to lie on flat on
your stomach with your legs together. Then put your left hand
back and grab your right ankle and voce versa, one at a time.
Then push your heel up while you are holding the ankle. Lift it
up as much as you can and remain in this position for a minimum
of ten seconds.

Wall Squat: In this exercise you stand with your feet shoulder
width apart and back against a smooth wall. Breathe in and
gradually lower yourself to a squat pose, while keeping your
heels in contact with the floor. Breathe out as you return to
the starting position.

Seated Split stretch: This is a stretch exercise for the inner
thighs. First you sit on a matt with legs spread out as far as
possible. Then you lean on your right side and touch your right
foot with your hands. You can either touch the toes or the
ankle. Remain in this position for sometime and then get back to
the starting posture. Repeat the same on the other side.

These are only a general description of four effective thigh
exercises. A modified exercise routine customized to suit your
needs will work faster and give you better results. So, consult
a certified personal trainer before you get started.

Looking Beautiful on a Budget - Wrinkle Repairs

Looking Beautiful on a Budget - Wrinkle Repairs
By Dr. Juris Bunkis

Q: I am in my early 50’s and I’m starting to see wrinkles. Many
of my friends have gotten facelifts and Botox® injections but
I’m terrified of needles and knives! Are there any over the
counter products that will tighten my skin?

A: Great question! You will know when you are saggy enough to
warrant surgery, but in the meantime, there are many
non-surgical treatments that can improve the quality of your
skin.

Most of us do not appreciate fine facial wrinkles,
hyperpigmentation and tactile roughness. Now you can have
smoother, less pigmented skin with the newest FDA approved
Tretinoin cream, Refissa®. It is emollient based and does not
dry out your skin. This product has become the gold standard
medical treatment for photo-damaged skin. It works by
stimulating cell turn over and causing the sun damaged outer
layers to slough off. Refissa® is the first important step to
healthier skin. Always remember sun protection year round!

The next step, now that your skin is healthier, may be one of
the many peels offered. There are many peels to choose from. For
the purposes of this article we will focus on the Microlaser
peel. Microlaser peel, the “week-end” skin peel, treats skin
conditions more aggressively than the Refissa® is capable of
doing. The Microlaser peel is performed with Sciton’s Erbium
laser which uses a computer guided scanner to ensure maximum
precision treatment uniformly. You will see improvements in just
a few days

What exactly does the Microlaser peel treat?

It is a minimal to full epidermis laser peel that precisely
removes the outer most layers of the skin. The procedure is
individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be
corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratoses, pigmentation problems,
overall sun damage.

How often does a Microlaser peel need to be done?

As mentioned above, year round sun protection is a key to
healthy skin. The results of any treatment, not just the
Microlaser peel, will last longer and be more efficacious if you
avoid future sun damage. One Microlaser peel procedure will
usually be sufficient for a few months but subsequent treatments
may be required. As mentioned earlier treatments are customized
to each person. During your consultation we can determine what
will be best for you.

What can I expect from the treatment?

Smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin. A blended complexion
with a lessening of fine lines.

Is the treatment painful?

When you go into the office, a topical triple anesthetic cream
will be applied. This application will make the procedure quite
tolerable. Afterwards you can have a surface Oxygen treatment.

What is my aftercare? Do I need to wear any bandages or
dressings?

No. Microlaser peel is not like a CO2 laser and requires
nothing more than a protective ointment like Aquafor or
vaseline. This is used as a barrier while you grow new
epithelium(baby cells, new skin). You may also go back to your
plastic surgeon’s office for oxygen treatments over the next few
days.

As you can see, there are options to a scalpel and needle when
making your skin look better! Make sure you discuss your
concerns with your plastic surgeon prior to any procedure.

Sugar: Why We Crave It

Sugar: Why We Crave It
By Phillip Tucker

Go back two hundred thousand years ago. Imagine our ancient
ancestors, the first Homo sapiens, exploring the African
countryside where they originated, hunting for food. They
probably ate a diet composed of meat, nuts, fruit, and assorted
vegetables. Simple, clean, nutritious. The only sugar they ever
ingested was that found in ripe fruit, or the occasional bee
hive that they managed to plunder. Sugar was a rare treat, and
over the next 199,000 years, we as a species were genetically
programmed to like eating it, since food containing sugar was
nutritionally dense and high energy. Our body learned to release
certain chemicals at the sight of sugary food, giving our body
pleasurable feelings so that we associated sugar with feeling
good.

Think about it: we’re genetically programmed to like sugar. We
learned to associate sugar with good nutrition. This was fine
when sugar was only found in ripe fruit and honey, but when a
little more than a thousand years ago sugar production was
discovered and spread across the world, suddenly humans had the
ability to trick their body into releasing those chemicals
without needing to eat the nutritionally dense food. Raw sugar,
without nutritional benefits. Our bodies don’t recognize this
chance, and keep rewarding us without realizing we’re cheating.
In effect, we’ve hacked our own brains.

Now, look at what has taken place over the last century. As
food production became more centralized, as certain small stores
became more successful and expanded, became thriving companies,
merged, became huge conglomerates, expanded, went international,
the people responsible for turning a profit figured out a basic
truth. If you put sugar in something, you will get people to eat
it. Doesn’t matter what the nutritional value of that object is,
if it tastes sweet, people’s brains will release those chemicals
and reward them for eating it.

The result is spread across our supermarket aisles. Look, for
example, at the ingredients of Little Debbie’s Zebra Cakes:
sugar, corn syrup, enriched bleached flour, riboflavin, water,
palm kernel oil, dextrose, soybean oil, egg whites, emulsifiers,
sorbitan monostearate, soy lecithin, sodium strearoyl lactylate,
proplylene glycol monostearate… the ingredient list becomes
increasingly strange and hard to pronounce. But what’s the first
ingredient listed? Sugar. And how many of those ingredients,
beyond egg whites, water and flour do you think your cavemen
ancestors ate? And what effect do you think those chemicals have
on your body?

A Gallup poll in October 2009 listed the rise of diabetes in
the US as having climbed to 11.3% of all Americans (26 million),
up from the 10.4% in the first quarter of 2008. If this trend
continues, 15% of Americans (more than 37 million) will be
living with diabetes by 2015. Obesity rates in America rose
during the same time period from 25.1% to 26.4% of all
Americans.

Go to your local supermarket, and look at all those brightly
lit packages. Look at all those advertisements for sweets and
snacks with sugar in them. Check the ingredient labels, and
realize that your brain has been hacked. You are being tricked
into rewarding your system for eating chemicals and sugar.
Consider the rise in obesity and diabetes in the nation, and
realize that as a nation, we need to understand our sugar
craving if we are to take control of it, and find a way to turn
these trends around.

Workout Tips for the Lazy Bones

Workout Tips for the Lazy Bones
By Charles Volcalatte

There are many ways to lose weight but admittedly, a weight
loss regimen would be lost without exercise. Exercise is an
important physical activity. Without resorting to these methods,
we might not be able to target the weight loss goals that we
have set for ourselves. For these reasons and more, exercise is
thus seen as an important regimen that can speed up weight loss
pursuits while also making healthier and giving a better shot at
wellness as well. The problem with exercise is that not many
people have the time for it. Or, the problem could also be that
the individuals are too lazy to take exercise seriously. For
those people who have this dilemma, here is what we prescribe to
get you guys on the move:

1. Start your physical activity or warm-up and the rest will
just follow. Breaking inertia is not the easiest thing to do but
once you've done it, the hardest part is over. Just do something
then you're started, all it takes is one positive step, no
matter how small. It can be one healthy meal, a few stretches, a
short walk, then tell yourself that you're over the hump and
you're on your way.

2. Get used to the routine that you have started and do your
best to stick to it. So you made it through day one. Whatever
positive step you did, do it for a minimum of three consecutive
days. The three-day repetition will give you back your
confidence and you will feel that you're back in control. Keep
this concept in mind and it will help you regain interest and
become motivated over and over again. Don't worry too much if it
isn't the most challenging action, your purpose is simply to get
back into the groove. You can resume your power workout in time.

3. Do your exercise routines even if it will just be for a few
minutes. A few minutes' exercise a day can do the trick. Make a
deal with yourself beforehand that you only have to do 10
minutes and after that you can stop, then do it without giving
yourself a chance to reconsider. Though the workout may not be
the full blown high intensity kind you are used to, it is enough
to keep you from slipping back to inactivity. Consider this
approach as a tool to help you get through those low energy, low
motivation days. There will be days when you'll just feel so
relieved that the 10 minutes are over, but there will also be
times when you would feel so fired up, there's no stopping you.
Either way, you win!

4. Find new routines and do some variations on your exercise
regimen so that you don't get too bored with it. Do not wait to
feel motivated, be proactive and learn to motivate yourself. Try
to find out what it is that inspires you to take action, invent
new tricks, create fresh ideas. One person I know puts on an
exercise video or watches one over the internet when she feels
too lazy to workout, but once the music gets going it's easier
for her to join in. Whenever those days hit you, just reach for
this list and rev back up.

Facelift: Know If You Are a Good Candidate for the Procedure

Facelift: Know If You Are a Good Candidate for the Procedure
By Abigail Aaronson

When going into a procedure, it is good to know if you're an
ideal candidate or not. If you're not, you have goals to work
towards and if you are, you can begin the process. There are
many things that make a good facelift candidate that will help
ensure your healing time is shorter and that you're happy with
your results.

Facelifts are done very commonly and are considered one of the
safer, less risky cosmetic surgeries. The success rates and
satisfaction that often result from this procedure have made it
very well known and desirable. If you're interested in getting a
facelift, there are a few things you should know before going
in.

There are some things that may disqualify you from being the
ideal candidate. Most people who undergo this process are
between forty and seventy years old, although people as young as
thirty or old as eighty also get it done. If you are still in
your twenties, you probably do not need a facelift and should
look into firming creams or something over-the-counter that can
help you feel better about your skin.

The things that will make you a good candidate are many. Having
elastic skin is one benefit, as this will help your face look as
natural as possible after surgery and will help you heal better.
In addition to having some elasticity to your skin, you should
have excess skin that you want trimmed off as this will give the
doctor something more to work with.

Having a strong bone structure will also help your healing
process, as it will give your face a better shape. If you think
your bone structure leaves room for improvement, tell your
doctor and see how he or she feels. He or she will be able to
make an objective opinion about your bones and can help you make
a better decision based on his or her expertise.

Good overall health is a must for all surgery. It is important
that you do not smoke and that you are in a generally good spot.
Having maintained a weight for six months or more, not imbibing
in smoke or alcohol, regular exercise and a healthy, balanced
diet are all things that will make you a more ideal candidate.
People in good health respond better to anesthesia and have a
better time healing than those who are not in good health.

One of the other important things is to have realistic
expectations. Many people go into surgery thinking that it's a
sort of miracle cure that will restore their face to
teenage-years glory. This isn't the case. Your doctor should go
over with you the type of results you can expect. Many offices
have digital imaging capabilities that can help you get a
glimpse of what you're face will look like.

One more very important thing is to offer full disclosure to
your doctor and surgeon. It is important for them to know the
things in your life, even if you feel that you might be
disqualified for some things. When people hide information, it
is rare that good things come of it. Typically, that information
is used to keep you safe during and after your surgery. After
figuring out if you're a good candidate, go ahead and make a
consultation and you'll be on your way to a more youthful
appearance in no time.

Bad Habits Can Kill You

By Accelerating the Aging Process

by

Joseph

According to a recent British study, alcohol drinking, smoking couch potatoes who don't eat enough fruits and vegetables are cutting their life expectancy by about twelve years when compared to people who lead just the opposite lifestyle.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone. Alcohol pulls water out of the tissues even killing brain cells and places unnecessary stress on the kidneys to detoxify the body (alcohol is actually a toxin and the higher the levels the greater the damage). Smoking produces carbon monoxide which competes with oxygen for a place on the hemoglobin molecule, thus interfering with cellular respiration. If these weren't bad enough, the chemicals that give cigarettes their appeal also make them addictive and carcinogenic.

Physical inactivity leads to muscle atrophy, decreased muscle tone, reduction in metabolism all of which contribute to weight gain. It also means that the cardiovascular system will not operate as efficiently because increased physical activity naturally acts as a stimulus for the heart to pump more blood to the cells to supply them with oxygen and nutrients.

People breathe more deeply when they're moving quickly, this brings in oxygenated blood to the lungs for distribution to all the cells of the body. Fruits and vegetables provide the body with vitamins and minerals that it needs for all of the cellular reactions and functions that are necessary for survival. Fruits and vegetables are also abundant in antioxidants, the very chemicals that reduce free radical damage and thus curbs the aging process.

Yet, for some reason there are millions of people who choose to take up bad habits. That's what it comes down to really: choice. No one is forced to not smoke, drink, get regular exercise and eat healthy.

But when you've smoked so many cigarettes that you smell like a chimney or cough so violently that you spew up blood; wake up with a terrible headache because guzzling down a gallon of booze the night before has killed off several million brain cells; receiving a report from the doctor that you've now got type II diabetes; and that your body is experiencing more and more aches and pains these should serve as a wake up call to stop what you're doing and start over. It's even better if you never get involved in any of those bad habits in the first place.

People have a choice as to how they will live, in this we must accept personal responsibility. Go wants us to lead holy lives, to love Him first then to love others as we would ourselves. This means to not do harm to yourself. We must take control of the situation if we are to improve the quality and quantity of our life. It shouldn't take research findings for people to realize that bad habits will kill them. All they really have to do is listen to their bodies.

(If you liked this article read "Those Bad Habits Really Will Catch Up With You One Day" to learn which foods and habits are most likely to cause you to gain weight.)

Tips For Performing Cardio Without Running

Tips For Performing Cardio Without Running
By Emily Taggart

There are many different reasons why you may be interested in
performing cardio workouts that do not include running, with
joint pain and a general hate for cardio topping the list for
most people. Whether you physically can't withstand the pressure
that running places on your body or have a real dislike for
running in general, you have tons of options for burning
calories that don't include lacing up the sneakers and pounding
pavement.

Low-Tension Machinery

Your first option would be to purchase or otherwise gain access
to some variety of workout machinery. Many people who can't
stand running can get into a walk on the treadmill or a ride on
a spin bike, especially when it is done in their own home with
the distraction of some good music or a television.

If your biggest concern with running is the stress on your
joints, then consider low-tension machinery such as an
elliptical or recumbent bike. If your pain is more severe, you
would likely be better off with a recumbent bike, but you can do
arm lifts with dumbbells to make the workout more intense. You
may also be able to do adjust the tension on the bike to create
a more demanding yet completely joint safe workout.

Dancing

This has to be at the top of the list for cardio alternatives
whether you love to run or not. You can dance anywhere, anytime
and can make it as intense or gentle as you want it to be. Your
movements can be wild and intense so you burn hundreds of
calories per session or you can dance around in a calmer manner
that delivers a more conservative calorie burn.

Dancing will also help relieve stress and leave you in a much
happier mood!

Swimming

Many people who hate exercise in general can deal with swimming
laps or taking a water aerobics class. If you have severe lower
body pain or problems with bending your leg joints you can swim
with your legs out behind you, pulling your lower body through
the pool with your upper body.

If you have limitations of movement with your upper body, you
can prop your chest and upper body on the side wall and kick
your legs out behind you to get in some form of a workout.

For those with more severe pain or physical limitations, just
getting in the pool and keeping your body moving can be a form
of cardio that helps keep you healthy and helps control weight.

Interval Training

If your problem is just that you hate running or have a general
distaste for cardio workouts, consider doing a variety of
strength movements mixed with some non-running cardio bursts.
You will virtually be performing strength building movements
with 30-60 seconds of cardio movement thrown in to elevate your
heart rate and burn more calories.

Some non-running cardio movements that can be added include:

* Step-ups on a small platform or exercise step.

* Knee lifts.

* Jumping jacks (if necessary, step legs out and in rather than
jumping)

* Fast punches (squat down, punch out in front of you with
control)

Whatever your reasons are for not wanting to run, it is no
excuse to become sedentary or continue to live a sedentary
lifestyle! Just find a way to get your body moving, even if it's
just strapping on a $5 pedometer and vowing to walk 5,000 steps
a day.
