10 Tips in Preventing Hair Breakage

One of the common problems that most people have when it comes to hair is breakage because most of the time, this concern is often overlooked. We are usually unaware of the process of wear and tear that our hair is subjected to everyday, until such time where it will already be too late. Since prevention is better than cure, here are ten tips that you can follow to reduce the incidence of hair breakage.

1. Keep hair brushing to a minimum - Brushing your hair may be necessary to keep hair well groomed, but you have to make sure that you don't overdo this because it can also lead to a number of broken hairs. The common perception of a hundred strokes daily actually has no factual basis of improving your hair. In fact this can only put your hair strands at risk because of the contact or strain the act of brushing creates. Brushing when your hair is wet is also a very big red flag in hair care because hair strands are highly sensitive to damage at this state. Therefore dry your hair first before combing, and you don't have to reach a hundred brush strokes to keep it groomed and healthy.

2. Make good use of your towel - Did you know that your towel can be the silent culprit to hair breakage? Many are unaware of how wrapping a towel or rubbing it vigorously over your hair can cause breakage. Making a turban out of it after a shower can actually be detrimental to your strands because it creates a strain particularly on the area near the hairline. As mentioned earlier, hair can be very sensitive to breakage when wet, that is why a tight wrap over the head can be damaging. If you are also fond of vigorously rubbing your hair to dry it after the shower you may also be breaking a dozen hair strands already. A good way to use your towel is to gently squeeze the water out of your hair with it.

3. Choose the right brush - It is wise to invest in a good brush if you want to avoid damaging your hair. The good way to go is to use brushes with boar bristles with nylon. These are far better than plastic bristles because they are less likely to snag on your hair which might cause it to snap. They are also effective in smoothening out the hair and distributing the natural oils at the same time.

4. Do not shampoo your hair everyday - If you want to avoid drying out your hair making it more vulnerable to breakage, don't shampoo it more than thrice a week. Shampoo may be able to remove dirt from the hairs but it may also sap out its natural oils. Two to three times in a week is enough to keep it clean while maintaining the oil that is necessary to keep both scalp and hairs strong.

5. Go for sulfate-free shampoos - This may have to take the extra step of looking for a shampoo that doesn't contain any sulfates. This are the substances that make your soap and shampoo create lather. Unfortunately this can also lead to hair dryness which makes it easier to break. Sulfate-free shampoos are gentler on the hair leaving you with an adequate amount of oils that will protect the hair and nourish it.

6. Untangle your hair gently - Should you find your hair to be caught in tangles, make sure to smoothen out the problem gently. Tangles can be a nuisance especially when you're on the run. But to avoid hair damage, make sure that you start to untangle your hair from the bottom going up. This will prevent straining the hair with your strokes which can lead to breakage. Use a wide-toothed comb in doing to make it more easy on your locks.

7. Use the right pillowcase - If your hair is really prone to breakage, it is best to use a silk or satin pillowcase. This will make it easier on your hair because it doesn't create so much friction on your locks as you toss and turn. These type of pillowcases will also prevent absorption of the natural oils from your hair that will leave it dry and more easier to break.

8. Use conditioner everyday - Coconut oil is one of the tried and tested solutions to weak hair. It helps maintain luscious locks and is a reliable natural preventive measure against hair fall due to too much breakage. A coconut oil massage once or twice a week will not only give you beautiful hair but a resilient one at that.

9. Regular trims - Conditioning can be a very beneficial part of your hair care regimen in steering clear from falling hair. All you need to do is to prepare a cup of your daily conditioner and mix it with 2-3 tablespoons of honey. Slather this all over your wet hair and leave it on for a good 30 minutes before a thorough rinse. The action of the conditioner is taken further by the nutrients and moisture provided by the honey. This also helps seal the hair cuticles giving the hair great body, a beautiful shine and renewed strength.

Jesus went up into a mountain and when he was comfortable, he called his disciples to come close to him and then opened his mouth and taught many wise sayings.

Jesus went onto tell his disciples and all who follow after righteousness that they are the actual salt of the earth and the light of the world. He instructed them to let their light shine before men so others could see their good works and this would in turn glorify the father which is in heaven.

Jesus told his disciples to not think he had come to destroy the law or the prophets, but that he had come to fulfill the law, and that all things spoken would be fulfilled. He said anyone who breaks even the least of the commandments, and teach others to do the same shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever obeys the laws and teaches others the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Our righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees or else we will not enter into the kingdom of heaven either. Jesus said don’t even be angry at your brother without a cause or else you will be in danger of the judgment and whoever calls a brother “Raca” will be in danger of the council, but whoever calls his brother “thou fool” will be in danger of hell fire. Jesus said this is equal to the breaking of the law of “thou shall not kill.”

With these teachings one has only to conclude it must be very, very awful in the eyes of Jesus and God to speak cruelly or to treat others as if they are stupid. This is surely at the core of all righteousness – how we treat each other.

Jesus taught if you have a disagreement or ought against your brother, you should first be reconciled. In other words, make amends with the person, become on friendly terms once again. The next step is to take that person a gift of some sort. I believe if we follow this rule, we will find a bit of extra favor with the Lord and be able to live more at peace with others.

Jesus also taught to just agree quickly with someone you are in argument or disagreement with while you are still halfway on speaking terms or things may get worse for you.

He taught many other simple daily rules to live at peace with other people. Jesus says it is better that our communication sometimes be just yes, yes, and no, no, because much more than this is surely to get blown out of proportion and become evil. He taught if someone smacks you on one cheek, rather than to slap that person back, just turn the other side of your face as if to say, it is more important that I keep the commandments of God in that I do harm to no one even if I have to take another slap on the other cheek. Now this is getting fairly difficult to comprehend. How close is being truly righteous? Not many people could live such a life as this and would twist the words around to say, but ah, this does not apply to us in this day and time. I believe these words have purpose for us. The majority of us will probably never face such a thing, but if we are put to the test, would we be able to pass? Of course, no one is expected to stand and take continual abuse. In a situation such as this, it is better to flee from the evil of abuse. Jesus tells us that two wrongs do not make things better.

I believe the main purpose of all these teachings of Jesus is to tell us to be good to each other and that most of our righteousness depends upon just how well we treat other people. Jesus went into great detail using many examples to tell us this one simple lesson he so desired from us. Be good to one another. We are commanded to move toward perfection in our quest for salvation even as the father who is in heaven is perfect, and if we love only those who love us, or salute only those who salute us, what real thanks have we, or how are we different from the publicans. The publicans love their own and those who love them only. To be different and set apart means to love our enemies, to bless them that curse us, do good to them that hate us and pray for them that despitefully use us and persecute us so that we may be the children of our Father which is in heaven because he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. He makes no respect in persons, good or evil.

Private Selection Denali Extreme Moose Tracks Ice Cream Recalled for Undeclared Allergen

According to information posted on the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) website, the Kroger Co. is recalling select containers of Private Selection Denali Extreme Moose Tracks Ice Cream sold in 13 states because it may contain peanuts not listed on the label. 

The item subject to recall isPrivate Selection Denali Extreme Moose Tracks Ice Cream sold in 48-ounce containers with a "sell by" date of April 16, 2015 under the following UPC Code: 11110-00456.

The item is sold at stores in the following states:

  • Bakers stores in Nebraska
  • Dillons stores located in Kansas and Missouri
  • Gerbes stores located in Missouri
  •  Fred Meyer stores located in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington
  • Food 4 Less stores located in California and Nevada
  • King Soopers and City Market stores located in Colorado and Wyoming
  • Ralphs stores located in California
  • Smith’s stores located in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming and QFC stores located in Oregon and Washington

Kroger, Food 4 Less (Chicago), Fry’s stores and Smith’s stores located in Arizona and New Mexico are not included in the recall.

According to the announcement, "Dillons, Fred Meyer, QFC, King Soopers, City Market, Ralphs, Food 4 Less (west coast), Bakers, Gerbes and Smith’s removed items from store shelves and initiated a customer recall notification system that alerts customers who may have purchased recalled Class 1 products through register receipt tape messages and phone calls."

People who are allergic to peanuts could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they eat this product. For consumers who are not allergic to peanuts, it's safe to consume this product.

Customers should return the product to stores for a full refund or replacement. To date, no customer illnesses have been reported.

Henry's Farm Soybean Sprouts Recall Due To Possible Listeria Health Risk

Henry’s Farm Inc. of Woodford, Virgina is recalling all packages of Soybean Sprouts because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, it was announced on the Food and Drug Administration's website.

According to the website, the following are subject to recall:

  • All clear 1 pound packages of Natto Soybean Sprouts. These products are labeled as produced by Henry’s Farm Inc. The packages were not coded.

  • All clear 2 pound packages of Bean Sprouts. These products are labeled as distributed by Rhee Bros. Inc. Columbia, MD. The packages were not coded.

  • All bulk (approximately 10 pounds) black plastic bags of Soy Bean Sprouts. These products are labeled as produced by Henry’s Farm Inc. The packages were not coded.

These items were distributed to retail stores in Maryland and Virginia.

According to the press release posted on FDA's website, the contamination was discovered following sampling by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Food Safety & Security Program. Subsequent analysis by the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in the products.

Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacteria which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in people with weakened immune systems.

The organism can also cause stillbirths and miscarriages among pregnant women.

Healthy people who become infected with Listeria monocytogenes may exhibit the following symptoms:

  • severe headache
  • high fever
  • stiffness
  • diarrhea
  • abdominal pain
  • nausea

According to the announcement, consumers who purchased Soybean Sprouts, distributed by Henry’s Farm should return the product to the place of sale for a full refund.

To date no illness has been reported.

According to the posted press release, consumers who have questions may contact the company directly at 301-802-2996 or the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Food Safety and Security Program at 804-786-3520.

Kozy Shack Pudding Recall Due To Allergen And Labeling Matters

Kozy Shack Enterprises, LLC is voluntarily recalling certain items of its Foodservice Kozy Shack® Simply Well® Chocolate Pudding 4 ounce cups due to undelcared milk allergen and lack of product labeling, was the announcement on the Food and Drug Administration's website.

The product comes in a small, clear 4 ounce plastic container and contains a yellow lid with the Kozy Shack logo on it. The carton in which the product was shipped can be identified with the following information:

  • Lot Number: 31637681
  • Item Code: 00050000073491
  • USE BY:31 DEC 14

The recalled product was distributed through foodservice distribution channels; it was not sold in retail stores.

The product was distributed to the following states:

  • Connecticut
  • Florida
  • Georgia

  • Kansas
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota

According to the announcement, the recall began after it was discovered that the milk-containing product was distributed without complete labeling.

People whom are severely sensitive to milk or are allergic to milk are at risk of a serious or even life-threatening reaction if they consume this product.

Thus far no injuries have been reported as a result of consuming the recalled pudding product, nor have there been any quality issues with it.

According to the announcement, consumers who have purchased this product are urged to stop using it and return it to the place of purchase. Kozy Shack will work with customers to collect the pudding product.

If you’re like the majority of women, especially those approaching menopause, there’s a good chance that you’re not satisfied with your weight and you have a strong desire to shed some pounds. And, just like most women, you’ve probably attempted weight loss on several occasions, only to give up after a short time. Maybe you’ve given up because you became discouraged, or perhaps you were facing a stressful period and you turned to food for comfort. Whatever the reason, there are diet strategies available that will assist you in successfully reaching your weight loss goal. The key is remembering these strategies. I strongly suggest you print out the following list and keep a copy on your refrigerator, in your purse, on your desk, on the dashboard of your car and anywhere else you may frequently look.

• Set Realistic Goals – Set a realistic, short-term weight goal. It’s best to take small steps so that you can feel successful with each accomplishment you make, even those that are small. In other words, set your first goal for 30 days from now, perhaps making that goal to lose 8-10 pounds. This is a very realistic and reachable goal if you stick to a well balanced diet. Once you’ve successfully accomplished this first goal, set your next for another 30 or 60 days and so on. In the end you will feel successful, accomplished and thin.

• Share Your Goals with Others – Yes, tell other people with whom you’re close exactly what your weight loss goal is. By doing so you’ll be more likely to stick with your goal due to the fact that you’ll likely feel humiliated and embarrassed if you should fail. Remind your friends that you only have so many days left before your deadline is up. This is sure to keep you in line because nobody likes to feel like a failure or think that they look like a failure to others.

• Be Organized and Prepared – Be sure to have your refrigerator and cupboards stocked with healthy, low-calorie and low-fat foods. This will prevent you from being tempted to reach for unhealthy snacks. You see, if healthy foods aren’t readily available and you’re looking for a shack, it’s quite likely that you’ll reach for whatever may be available. You’ll avoid this if you have a good supply of fruits, nuts and vegetables around.

• Think Before You Eat – If you’re tempted to grab a bite to eat, stop and think for a moment. Ask yourself if you’re really hungry or instead bored, stressed or perhaps reaching for food simply because it’s in front of you. If you decide you’re not really hungry after all, distract yourself by doing something productive, making a phone call, reading or even going for a walk. Just like with smoking, usually the temptation will pass.

• Keep a Food Journal – Make an entry for each meal and snack you consume, as well as the time and number of calories for these entries. This will assist you a great deal in ensuring that you’re not overeating or exceeding the calorie limit you’ve set for yourself. • Exercise – Make time to fit in a regular exercise routine, which includes weight training, as this will speed the time at which you lose inches. Ranchers Legacy Ground Beef Recall Due To E. Coli Concerns

Ranchers Legacy Meat Co., of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, is recalling 1,200 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection (FSIS) announced.

The FSIS has designated this a Class I Recall of High Health Risk.

The USDA says that the products subject to the recall are packaged in plastic cryovac sealed packets, and contain various weights of ground beef.  The FSIS went on to say that all products produced on Nov. 19, 2014 are subject to recall.

  • Ranchers Legacy Ground Chuck Patties 80/20

  • Ranchers Legacy USDA Choice Ground Beef 80/20
  • Ranchers Legacy USDA Choice WD Beef Patties 80/20

  • OTG Manufacturing Chuck/Brisket RD Patties
  • Ranchers Legacy Chuck Blend Oval Beef Patties
  • Ranchers Legacy WD Chuck Blend Patties
  • Ranchers Legacy USDA Choice NAT Beef Patties 80/20

  • Ranchers Legacy NAT Beef Patties 80/20
  • Ranchers Legacy USDA Choice NAT Beef Patties 80/20

All of the recalled ground beef products have a Package Code (use by) 12/10/2014 and bear the establishment number “Est. 40264” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Products were shipped to distributors for nationwide sale.

According to the USDA, the product was discovered by FSIS inspection personnel during a routine inspection, and products testing positive on November 21, 2014 were held at the establishment.  The recalled products were produced on the same day and equipment as the positive product. 

The USDA says that E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and abdominal cramps 2–8 days (3–4 days, on average) after exposure the bacteria.

The pathogen can also cause some people to develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) although most people exposed to it tend to recover within one week.

Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) can affect anyone, but children under age five and the elderly are most vulnerable.  HUS symptoms include:

  • easy bruising
  • pallor
  • decreased urine output

The USDA says that people who experience these aforementioned symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.

The FSIS and Ranchers Legacy Meat Co. are concerned that some of the recalled ground beef may be frozen and stored in consumers' freezers.

Neither the FSIS nor the company have received reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products.

The FSIS suggests that all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen meats, and only eat ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160 ° Fahrenheit, and to use an internal thermometer to insure the meat has been thoroughly cooked.

If you've ever started something new for the first time you know itn can be a frightening experience. This is especially true in trying something that has the risk of injury involved. The information here should ease your anxieties about getting started if you are just beginning skiing.

There are three things that you should know before you start skiing. You should know about equipment, ski slopes, and some basic instruction. First of all you need some equipment. You might have a question of whether you should rent or buy. If your just getting started it is best to rent as you don't know how much you'll enjoy skiing. It is also important to rent because there are many different styles of skis and boots that you may want to try before you settle in on something to buy. Your equipment should be comfortable and suit your skill level. If you're a beginner let the salespeople know that so they can choose the right equipment for you. Make sure you get ski goggles. If you will be taking children with you skiing make sure they have helmets. Skis, helmets, boots and goggles should all be available at the ski resorts rental shop.

Clothing is another option that you want to consider when going skiing. Since you go to be outside it's going to be cold. It's recommended that you dress in layers with the lowest layer having a fabric that will draw moisture away from your body. This will keep you warm and dry. You'll have much more fun if your teeth are not chattering.

Next, figure out when and where you plan to ski. You should be able to find resorts and slopes in your area or you may decide to take a vacation skiing somewhere else. If you're taking a skiing vacation make sure that you understand how pricing works at a resort. The fees for skiing will include equipment rental, ski lift fees, and facility fees. You may want to avoid the weekends as weekends are always the the most expensive. Some skiing resorts provide group pricing. Review the rates carefully when choosing a place to ski.

There are a variety of ways that you can learn to ski. You can learn yourself, from a friend, or you can take a class from a professional ski instructor. If you plan to teach yourself be careful because this can be dangerous. The best option is to learn from a ski instructor he can as they know all about the slopes, skiing techniques, and safety procedures. Also, ski instructors have experience teaching others. This is something your friend might not have. Ski instructors charge of variety of different rates so make sure that you find that upfront about their prices.

It can be scary when you first learn to ski but if you have the right equipment, a great place to ski, and a professional instructor you can have a great skiing experience.

Evershing International Trading is voluntarily recalling Vinacafe Brand Wake Up Weasel Instant Coffee mix 3‐in‐1  after they learned that the product may contain Sodium Caseinate  (which is a Milk derivative), a milk allergen, and soy extract, a soy Allergen, that is not declared on the products' ingredient statement, was the announcement on the Food and Drug Administration's website.

The Vinacafe Brand Wake Up Weasel Instant Coffee mix 3‐in‐1 was distributed inthe following states:

  • California
  • Washington
  • Oregon
  • Oklahoma

The recalled instant coffee product was distributed by Evershing International Trading in two types of packaging:

  • 20 sachet (17g) packaged in a plastic bag
  • 20 sachet (17g) packaged in a paper box

According to the announcement, the Vinacafe Brand Wake Up Weasel Instant Coffee mix 3‐in‐1 is a new product line of Vinacafe Brand Coffee which was recently introduced in the U.S. and Canada a few months ago.

Although there is no risk to people who don't have allergies to milk or soy, people who are allergic or sensitive to milk or soy could become very sick if they consume products containing these ingredients.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency discovered the problem during a routine check that the packaging did not list the milk allergen.

The company investigated further and revealed that this new product also has soy extract.

"Vinacafe has remedied the labeling issue by relabeling all products within their inventory, thus no future products are affected." the company said.

Thus far no illnesses have been reported as a result of consuming the Vinacafe Brand Wake Up Weasel Instant Coffee mix 3‐in‐1.

Consumers who have bought this product can return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund.

Most of us have a tendency to put on weight in one particular place. Whether we have fat thighs, flabby arms or a potbelly, it's important to tackle these problem areas - not just to look better but, more importantly, to avoid the health risks associated with them.

Ankles

Chunky ankles are often the result of water retention before your period. Check by pressing your thumb against your ankle - if the skin springs back when you remove your thumb, it's fat; if you can see a dent, it's fluid. Persistently swollen ankles can be a sign of heart disease, liver problems, kidney failure or thrombosis.

Get rid of it by drinking dandelion tea twice a day to ease water retention. If it's fat, try heel-raising exercises. Put your feet flat on the floor, lift up your heels so you're on tiptoe, then return your heels to the floor. Repeat for 10 to 15 minutes a day.

Insides

Even if you're a size six with no rolls anywhere (lucky thing), you may still be fat on the inside. Visceral fat, caused by a lack of exercise and eating too many fatty, sugary foods, can wrap around your organs, and leads to diabetes and heart disease.

Get rid of it by cutting out as many saturated fats (in butter, pastry, biscuits and cakes) as you can and instead having unsaturated fats (found in margarine, olive oil and oily fish).

Hips, Bum and Thighs

If you have a desk job, you're more likely to be fat in these areas because your lymphatic system, which flushes out fatty toxins, slows down if you're often sitting down.

Get rid of it by going for a walk during your lunch break. Wandering around the shops will do the trick as well. Also try body-brushing, working your way from the ankles and up the legs in the direction of the heart. It improves circulation, which helps the lymphatic system do its job.

Arms

Even if you're in good shape, you can get flabby skin under the arms. This is partly caused by genes and partly a result of the fact that there are very few exercises that tackle this area. It can also suggest a diet imbalance.

Get rid of it by making sure you're not missing out on good fats in your diet, as these help fight the bad fats. This is a common mistake made by people who are dieting. Opt for foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fresh tuna and salmon. Also, try working out your triceps (the muscles at the back of your upper arms) with simple weight exercises using one-litre bottles of water.

Stomach

Women are genetically predisposed to storing fat around their stomachs. Oestrogen activates fat-storing enzymes, which means women on the combined Pill are even more likely to put on weight in this area. It can also be a sign that your blood-sugar levels are very inconsistent.

Get rid of it by stabilizing blood-sugar levels - eat breakfast and have healthy snacks (such as seeds) during the day. Cutting down on booze helps too. If nothing seems to work, go to a doctor for a checkup. Persistent fat on the stomach can be an early sign of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and even dementia.

Breasts

Finally, fat where we want it. But don't get too excited. Unless it's just water retention before a period, chances are it's the result of a heavy drinking or smoking habit. The fat will look a bit like cellulite, which is a sign the liver is being blocked by toxins.

Get rid of it by drinking and smoking less, of course. The stronger the alcohol you consume, the more it slows down metabolism. So choose booze with a low alcohol content.
