According to a posting on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, AA USA Trading Inc. of South River, New Jersey is recalling dried mango and dried products packaged under the AA brand in 8-ounce plastic bags because they may contain colors and sulfites undeclared on the product label.

The company says the AA brand dried kiwi and dried mango products were sold in retail stores in New Jersey and New York starting July 2014.

People who are allergic to sulfites or colors risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The items subject to recall are:

  • 8-ounce dried mango product that was sold in a plastic bag printed in green and white with the letters "AA" and the "thumbs-up" symbol, labeled "Dried Tai Sweet Mango Slice," UPC code 6944155210102.
  • 8-ounce dried kiwi product that was sold in a similar plastic bag printed in green and white with the letters "AA" and the "thumbs-up" symbol, labeled "Dried Kiwi Slice," UPC code 6944155210041.

According to the company, the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the dried mango and kiwi products containing sulfites was distributed in packing that did not reveal the presence of sulfites. Moreover, the company says that it was discovered that presence of colors FD&C Yellow # 6 in the dried mango product and both FD&C Yellow # 5 and FD&C Blue # 1 in the dried kiwi product were undeclared in packaging. The company said that investigations revealed "the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's packaging and labeling processes."

There have not been any reported illnesses or consumer complaints.

The company urges consumers who purchased the dried mango or dried kiwi products to not eat them; instead customers should throw the items away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

According to the press release, consumers with questions can contact Mei Zhang, the secretary, at (732)-651-9948, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Eastern Standard Time).
