The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that ConAgra Foods, an establishment in Russellville, Arkansas is is recalling approximately 3,806 pounds of frozen chicken and beef entrée products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal.

The FSIS has designated this a Class I Recall of HIgh Health Risk.

According to the FSIS, the fragments may be embedded in the sauce contained within the frozen entrée products. The fragments range in size between 2 and 9 millimeters (mm) in diameter, and are curled, malleable and shiny. 

The following products are subject to recall:

• 22-oz. plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Brand Signature Spicy Chicken.” with “Use By” date of 6/08/17 and case code 5006616500
• 22-oz. plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Brand Mongolian Style Beef.” with “Use By” date of 6/17/17 and case code 5006617400

The recalled food products bear establishment number “EST. 233” inside the USDA mark of inspection. 

The food products were shipped to to distributors and retail locations in the following states:

• New York
• Illinois
• Vermont
• Minnesota
• Arkansas
• Michigan
• Wisconsin

The USDA said the problem was discovered when a ConAgra Foods employee observed metal fragments while dispensing sugar from a supplier for sauce formulation during processing. The USDA said the resulting sauce is a component in the frozen chicken and beef entrée products.

The USDA said that no illnesses have been reported in connection to eating this product. They recommend that anyone with concerns about illness or injury to contact a healthcare professional.

The USDA said that people who bought the recalled items shouldn't consume them; they suggest that consumers discard the recalled items or return them to the place of purchase.
