Kellogg Company Recalls Limited Number of Kellogg’s Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles Due Potential Listeria Contamination



According to a posting on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, Kellogg Company has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 10,000 cases of Kellogg’s® Eggo® Nutri-Grain® Whole Wheat Waffles because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

Kellogg said none of the other Eggo products are impacted by this recall.

The affected product is

Kellogg’s® Eggo® Nutri-Grain® Whole Wheat Waffles

  • Package Size: 10 Box Count (12.3 oz)
  • Package UPC Code: 38000 40370
  • With Best If Used By Date of: NOV 21 17 or NOV 22 17

The company said the date code can be found on the side of the package.

Recalled product was distributed to customers and retailers in 25 states:

  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • New Hampshire
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • New Jersey
  • Vermont
  • New York
  • Massachusetts
  • Maine
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Minnesota
  • Michigan
  • Kansas
  • Missouri
  • Indiana
  • Wisconsin
  • North Dakota
  • Nebraska
  • Wyoming
  • Virginia
  • Delaware
  • Maryland
  • Georgia

Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause serious and life-threatening illness in the elderly people with weakened immune systems, frail persons and young children. The bacteria can also cause stillbirths and miscarriages among pregnant women. Healthy people who become infected may experience the following symptoms:

  • high fever
  • nausea
  • stiffness
  • abdominal pain
  • diarrhea

Kellogg said the recall is a result of its routine testing which detected the potential for listeria contamination. As soon as Kellogg learned of a "potential concern" they quickly moved "to identify any foods that might be impacted and resolve the issue."

The company said it hasn't received any reports of illness to date. They are recalling the product as part of the company's commitment to health and safety of people who consume their foods.
