What is morning sickness?

It is a feeling of sickness within your stomach the first thing in the morning when you are pregnant. Most cases starts very early in pregnancy. For some women it can start as soon as pregnancy occurs. It can last from a few hours first thing in the morning to all day. Some pregnant women do not get morning sickness until mid-morning. Usually it will end by about the 12th or 16th week of pregnancy. Unfortunately for some women it can persist throughout the pregnancy.

Sometimes you feel so sick to your stomach that you feel like you have to throw up. You may spend a while with your head over a vomit bowel and nothing comes out except you are retching like hell. For other pregnant women they actually do throw up. Some women cannot hold down any food at all during the first trimester of pregnancy.

What causes morning sickness?

Up until I experienced my own pregnancies, I was always taught and believed that morning sickness was either hormonal or physiological. I now know differently.

I know the hormonal surges cause nausea but I have my theory about why some women are more nauseated than others and I would like to share this with you. As an energy healer I go within and understand pregnancy from a deeper prospective.

Looking at the bigger picture, pregnancy has an energetic part. The energetic makeup or feel of the incoming spirit (your baby) is very different from that of the mother's. This then creates an imbalance between the mother's and the baby's energetic patterns and this in itself can literally make the mother physically sick. Morning sickness remedies have helped many pregnant women from feeling so awful during the first few weeks or months of pregnancy.

It could be likened to this analogy. For a moment think of a person makes you uncomfortable when they are in your presence. Now pretend to put that person inside your body twenty-four hours a day for a few months and imagine what it would feel like. No wonder pregnant women feel sick and have morning sickness! On the other hand, some women have greater compatibility with the incoming spirit and for them, pregnancy is easier to handle.

Here are some cures and remedies for morning sickness that my clients have tried over the years so see which ones work for you.

    • Eat a few plain dry crackers 10-15 minutes before getting out of bed in the morning.


    • Avoid excessive toothpaste use first thing in the morning.


    • Eat small amount of food at a time.


    • Don't mix liquids with solid foods.


    • Keep away from strong smells such as perfumes during early pregnancy.


    • Sleep if you can until the morning sickness passes.


    • Avoid over crowded warm places.


    • Sniff fresh lemons or ginger in early pregnancy, essential oils may be used as a substitute.


    • Drink soda water, lemonade, ginger ale or watermelon as they may help.


    • Salty potato chips or salted crackers are great.

Gallo Meats LLC. Recalls Sausage, Lamb and Beef Products Produced Without Benefit of Inspection



The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that Gallo Meats LLC., an establishment in Colville, Washington is recalling approximately 82 pounds of various beef, lamb and sausage products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection even though a mark of inspection was applied to the products.

The FSIS has designated this a Class I Recall of High Health Risk.

The USDA said the Italian beef, sausage and lamb items were produced on various dates between April 20 and July 27, 2016. 

The following beef, lamb and sausage products are subject to recall:

  • 12-16 oz. cryovac packages of “HOT ITALIAN SAUSAGE” with a pack date of 04-20-16.
  • 12-16 oz. cryovac packages of “GROUND LAMB” with a pack date of 06-07-16.
  • 12-16 oz. cryovac packages of “BEEF FLANK STEAK” with a pack date of 07-22-16 or 07-27-16.

The recalled products bear establishment number “EST. 09334” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The items were sold to consumers in Washington state.

According to the USDA, the problem was discovered when FSIS inspectors observed that product was marked with USDA mark of inspection even though product was not produced during an FSIS inspection.

The USDA said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to eating these products. They advise anyone who is concerned about injury or illness to contact a health care provider.

The USDA urges consumers who bought the recalled products not to eat them; they are advised to discard the items or return them to the place of purchase.

Filipinos are fond of eating chicken dishes, do we?, tinola, for Filipinos are one of the most famous dishes. Aside from being delicious of this dish, of course it is also nutritious. Of course all of us wanted our meal to be healthy as always and with that I would like to share another easy-cooked dish that will surely fulfill your taste for a food.

What do we need?


1 kilo chiken, cut into serving pieces

1 tablespoon cooking oil

3 gloves garlic, minced

1 thumb-size ginger, cut into pieces

1 medium-sized onion, divide

¾ liter of water, to cove

1 stalk tanglad (lemon grass) or malunggay (either of both), bundled

green papaya, seeded and cut into wedges

pepper and pepper leaves


Of course you need first to heat the cooking oil and after that put the garlic and half-cooked it, to make it extract an inviting scent. Next is the ginger and onion; do the same on it. And then let’s add the chicken to the pan. Cover the frying pan or saucepan, whatever you use for cooking, to me I use frying pan for this or sometimes our saucepan and wait for 15-20 minutes or longer, it depends on how strong is the fire you applied to your stove. When the chicken is half-cooked add water on it and boil it. Then after that you can now put the green papaya. Make sure it’s cut to wedges. Simmer it and wait for about 10-15 minutes then you can now add lemon grass or malunggay, neither both, whichever you choose, it doesn’t matter, it’s still worthy. But for me what I always use is the malunggay. But they say that lemon grass is more palatable or flavorsome than malunggay. Maybe they believe that it has better nutritional supplements, but for me it really depends. Both are tasteful, edible and healthy. Anyway, I’m going to explain further for that later. About the malunggay or lemon grass after a minute or two you’re already done with the cooking. Easy is it?

Now I’m going to explain furtherly how the two leaves I mentioned earlier differs to each other.

Malunggay leaves is said to be effective on strengthening the immune system, most commonly added to plenty water dishes and also a good source of nutrients that could add semen count. Its tea helps to reduce inflammation of the joints and tendons. Helps also to normalize blood sugar level to prevent diabetes, better night sleep, and contains 3 times potassium than banana. I think that’s too much for now. You can search more about malunggay.

While lemon grass, it contains antifungal and antibacterial properties, also it improve immune system. And for girls, this helps for menstrual problems, because it lessens the blood pressure and improves our body circulation. And also prevent you from having pimples and acne. Also helps to condition our muscles and body tissues. That’s all I got for lemon grass but I know there’s still a lot of its good effects. You can also do deeper research for this if it makes sense.

Drew’s, LLC Issues Recall Of One Lot of Field Day Organic Ranch Dressing Due To Undeclared Allergens



According to a posting on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, Drew’s, LLC of Chester, Vermont has announced that it is voluntarily recalling one lot code of Field Day Organic Ranch Dressing due to milk and egg undeclared on back of product label.

People whom are allergic or sensitive to milk and/or eggs risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recalled Field Day Organic Ranch Dressing comes in an 8 fl. oz. glass bottle with the lot code W210I. The recalled product has Best By date of Jan. 28, 2018, and UPC #042563600242.

The recalled product was distributed in retail stores nationwide.

Drew's, LLC said that no other Field Day products are affected by this recall.

The company said no illnesses have been reported as a result of eating this product; they are recalling the mislabeled product in cooperation with the FDA.

According to Drew's, LLC, the recall was initiated after Field Day informed them that the back label of some products did not list milk and eggs as ingredients; those mislabeled bottles were used on lot W210I and entered trade.

Drew's, LLC said that consumers who bought the recalled product can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Most fitness participants are familiar with delayed onset muscle soreness, but obese and overweight people have to contend with chronic pain that is caused by pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Thus, it's quite understandable that many of these folks shy away from exercise. The unfortunate downside is that people who don't take steps to increase their energy expenditure (and thereby burn fat energy) will continue to release inflammatory cytokines from their fat tissue thereby leading to a vicious cycle of chronic inflammation, pain and weight gain.

Interestingly, medical scientists have been hard at work seeking natural remedies for inflammation. Much research is being conducted on the anti-inflammatory properties of edible plants.

Researchers have discovered that a special type chemical derived from the bergamot citrus fruit can reduce inflammation. This compound is known as as bergamot polyphenolic fraction (BPF).

A published article in American Journal of Physiology - Endocrinology and Metabolism discusses a correlation between saturated fatty acids and inflammation5. Additionally, researchers published a report in Lipids in Health and Disease discussing a relationship between high levels of cholesterol, pro-inflammatory cytokines and heart disease6.

People who suffer from NAFLD have high amounts of serum cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL) and low amounts of high density lipoprotein (HDL)7.

Avoid smoking: Smoking is the worst kind of news for your lungs. If you are a smoker, it is highly recommended that you stop immediately. If you do not smoke but are always amidst smokers, there are equal chances of you to being exposed to such lung infections. Eat right: A healthy diet is absolutely indispensible for the well being of your lungs. Try and include a lot of antioxidants in your diet like apples, broccoli and other fruits and vegetables which will help to restore your lungs and enable them to function properly.

Clear mucus and phlegm: When you catch a cold, your lungs become damp due to the accumulation of a lot of mucus as well as phlegm in them. This happens mainly due to the intake of food which encourages the growth of mucus like dairy products and ice cream. It is therefore extremely essential for you to avoid these whenever you are suffering from cold and cough.

Get in touch with a doctor: If you are already suffering from any lung ailment like asthma, you need to be in touch with a medical practitioner at a regular basis. They will guide you as to how you can be on your guard to avoid breathing trouble and what you can do if you face a problem all of a sudden. You must never neglect a problem but try and address it soon enough so that it gets eradicated from the root itself.

PT Farm, LLC Recalls Lamb Products Because Of Possible E. Coli Contamination



The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that PT Farm, LLC, an establishment in North Haverhill, New Hampshire is recalling approximately 15 pounds of lamb products that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. 

The FSIS has designated this a Class I Recall of High Health Risk.

The lamb products, a neck and one leg, were derived from a carcass produced on September 6, 2016 and shipped to a retail store in Somerville, Massachusetts and sold at the store's retail counter on Sept. 7, 2016.

The USDA said the problem was discovered on Sept. 7, 2016 when PT Farm, LLC was notified of an E. coli positive water supply sample result and resulting "water boil" notice that was initiated by the North Haverhill Municipality Water Department located in North Haverhill, New Hampshire.

FSIS and PT Farm, LLC are concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers' freezers.

The USDA urges consumers who bought the recalled products not to eat them. They suggest the products be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Get Cooking and Start Losing!

If you are trying to lose some weight, I've got some really exciting news for you. A recent study published in Public Health Nutrition Journal that people who cook at home most of the time consume generally healthier meals with around 200 fewer calories daily, and only 16 grams of sugar (4 teaspoons) which is much less than the 22 teaspoons per day consumed by the average adult. This means that you can drop some pounds without going on another rigid diet that leaves you feeling aggravated, hungry, and weighing the same - or more. All you have to do is start cooking at home more often!

While it can be a challenge for most people to cook at home daily, the good news of the study was that cooking at home just 2-3 days per week was associated with decreased calorie consumption and improved diet quality - less sugar, fat and salt. The tricky part is translating these findings into action. Many people need to overcome some very real barriers of regular home cooking including lack of time and cooking skills.

These 5 simple steps will help you (and your kitchen) get ready for preparing home cooked meals.

• If you don't usually cook, start gradually. Make it a goal to cook once a week and work up to cooking more often.

• Be more efficient and make better food choices by planning ahead. Use a meal planner and prepare an organized grocery list every week. Be sure to always have healthy staples on hand, such as dried fruit, whole wheat pasta, frozen vegetables and "no-salt-added" canned vegetables, and frozen seafood.

• Go grocery shopping once a week and don't forget to take along your grocery list. This is less stressful and time-consuming than attempting to navigate through the grocery aisles and then wait on the check-out line night after night on your way home from work. And you will never again have to stare into your fridge wondering, "What's for dinner?" or resort to fast food take-out.

• Prep meals the night before or in the morning. Cutting up veggies for the salad or side dish can help save time after work. Also try cooking a big meal on the weekend and serve it as leftovers during the week or freeze it for another time.

• Experiment with new recipes so you don't get bored; and look for ways to make your old standby recipes healthier. For example, use spices and herbs to add more flavor instead of adding salt or fat.

Now it's time for you to get cooking. Here's one of my favorite everyday side dish recipes complements of my good friend, colleague and avid home cook, Patricia Stefanicha. Here's what Pat has to say about her Cauliflower Fried Rice:

"Want to satisfy both your taste buds AND your desire to feed yourself and your family a quick, healthy meal? Take-out might sound like a good idea after a busy day, but I have a better solution. This Cauliflower Fried Rice is my favorite week night go-to meal. Cauliflower is the chameleon of the vegetable world. It has the amazing ability to stand in for other higher carb ingredients. In this recipe, finely chopped cauliflower takes the place of rice.

If you're really pressed for time, convenient produce items, such as pre-cut veggies, can help you get dinner on the table so quickly you'll wonder what you ever saw in take-out! Feel free to personalize your Cauliflower Fried Rice by adding any of your favorite vegetables to the mix. Pair it with some grilled chicken and you'll have a quick, healthy meal you can feel good about!"

Cauliflower Fried Rice

Makes 6 servings


• 1 medium size head of cauliflowe

• 1 medium onion, diced

• 2 ribs celery, diced

• 2 large carrots, peeled and diced

• 2 teaspoon minced garlic

• 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

• 1 egg, beaten

• 2 teaspoon low sodium soy sauce or Coconut Aminos

• 2 scallions, chopped

• 1 teaspoon sesame seeds


1. Break cauliflower into florets and place in bowl of food processor. Pulse several times until a uniform consistency of small particles is achieved. Alternatively, grate the cauliflower with a box grater.

2. Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add 1½ tablespoons of olive oil to pan, followed by onion, celery, carrot and garlic. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

3. Push all vegetables to edges of skillet, making a clear spot in center of the pan. Add the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of oil and the beaten egg. Let it cook until the egg begins to set, less than a minute, and then combine with the vegetables.

4. Add the cauliflower and toss everything together. Continue to cook over medium heat for another 5 minutes or so, until cauliflower just begins to brown slightly.

5. Drizzle on the soy sauce or Coconut Aminos and give everything a final toss. Top with sesame seeds and scallions. Serve as a side dish.
