Sager Creek Foods, Inc. Recalls Limited Number of Canned Vegetable Products for Possible Allergen Risk



According to a posting on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, Sager Creek Foods, Inc., a subsidiary of Del Monte Foods, Inc., announced they are recalling approximately 15,000 shipped cases of FIELD PEAS WITH SNAPS and GREEN BEAN PRODUCTS, primarily non-retail, which might have potentially been contaminated with trace amounts of shellfish.

The majority of the recalled cases (14,761) were distributed to foodservice customers. The products were shipped to 22 states. They are listed below:

  • MO
  • MS

  • KS
  • GA
  • KY
  • LA
  • OK
  • NC
  • SC

  • TX

Sager Creek said the products are sold in 106 ounce metal cans with Best By Dates of JUN 01 19 printed on the top and contain the following UPC codes and product names:

Shellfish allergen can cause serious or fatal reaction in people whom are allergic to shellfish. Symptoms of shellfish poisoning may include:

  • hives
  • watery eyes
  • coughing
  • wheezing
  • swelling of face, lips, tongue and hands
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • anaphylaxis

Sager Creek said that a customer alerted them to the incident. The company said there have not been any reports of illness in connection with this issue to date. There is no risk for people who don't have a shellfish allergy.

Sager Creek said that if consumers or customers have any of the listed items with the indicated UPC codes and Best By dates, they should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
