According to a posting on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, Osage Gardens Inc. has announced that it is recalling Osage Gardens Organic 2oz Micro Greens, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
The company said the Osage Gardens Organic 2oz Micro Greens product is packed in a clear plastic clamshell and has a label on the bottom with a UPC Code 709376615008 and affected product are dated with a Julian codes from 266 to 279’.
The recalled Osage Gardens Organic 2oz Micro Greens was distributed to Whole Foods stores in Colorado and Kansas.
The recall was implemented because routine sampling revealed the finished products contained Salmonella bacteria.
Salmonella is a potentially lethal foodborne illness which can cause serious or life-threatening illness in the elderly, frail persons, people with weakened immune systems and young children.
Healthy people who become infected may experience the following symptoms:
- abdominal pain
- diarrhea (possibly bloody)
In some rare instances the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and travel to other parts of the body and cause endocarditis, aneurysms and arthritis.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
Osage Gardens Inc. said that it has ceased the production and distribution of the product as the Food and Drug Administration and the company continue investigating the cause of the problem.
The company urges people who bought the product not to eat it, instead their urged to return the Osage Gardens Organic 2oz Micro Greens to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Osage Gardens Inc. at 970-876-0668 Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm.
