Barbell Floor Press Challenge Week 48

by

Joseph

I did not get to the gym last week but that did not stop me from exercising. I did stairclimbing throughout the week; this exercise provided me with a solid cardio workout that burned off extra calories.

I do look forward to returning to the gym this week; New Year's is coming up this Tuesday so my gym will be closed but I I hope to get there for weight training the day after.

When I get back to the gym I'll be doing the standing barbell overhead press with the Olympic bar at the weights I had most recently.

I'll keep you posted.

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear ; do not be frightened." 1 Peter 3:14

Type 2 Diabetes - An Oral Drug That May Protect Against Heart Failure As Well As Lower Blood Sugar

Type 2 Diabetes - An Oral Drug That May Protect Against Heart Failure As Well As Lower Blood Sugar
By Beverleigh H Piepers

Dapagliflozin (Farxiga) is an SGLT2 inhibitor, given in the form of a pill for people who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and is used along with diet and exercise and sometimes with other medications. It works by making the kidneys secrete more sugar into the urine. According to a study reported on in October of 2018 in the journal Cardiovascular Diabetology, the drug is also helpful for treating heart failure, one complication of Type 2 diabetes.

Heart failure takes place when the left side of the heart is unable to take in blood from the lungs and send it out fast enough to the rest of the body.

The heart is made up of muscle tissue which grows when it is stressed. Inward growth of this muscle makes for a smaller space to accommodate blood flowing in from the lungs. This causes the heart to fail, filling the lungs with fluid from the blood.

In 2017 an estimated 26 million people worldwide had heart failure. In Type 2 diabetes high blood sugar levels damage the heart and blood vessels, and high blood pressure can result. It is vital to bring down the blood pressure reading to a healthy level to lower the strain on the heart. Heart attacks may not cause chest pain in people with Type 2 diabetes because nerve damage reduces sensation. That makes preventing heart disease even more imperative.

Investigators at Kobe University and several other research facilities in Japan looked at 58 people who had Type 2 diabetes and who also had heart failure. Dapagliflozin at a dose of 5 mg/day was added to their usual regimen. After six months the muscle tissue comprising the left side of the diabetic's heart decreased in size. Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), a protein secreted by the heart cells in response to being stretched too far, lowered in the participants whose BNP was extremely high. From this information, the researchers concluded dapagliflozin could be helpful for improving heart failure in those who have Type 2 diabetes.

The natriuretic peptide is effective in making the kidneys secrete potassium into the kidneys, lowering the blood pressure and the amount of blood in the heart and blood vessels.

Dapagliflozin is given once a day, either with or without food. It is prescribed as part of an overall treatment plan that includes diet and exercise. Side effects include...

  • urinary tract yeast infections,
  • a stuffy nose with a sore throat,
  • frequently urinating in more copious amounts and at night,
  • dizziness or light-headedness,
  • ketoacidosis (check for ketones in urine),
  • nausea and vomiting,
  • feeling very tired,
  • having difficulty with breathing,
  • abdominal pain, and
  • kidney injury.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

For nearly 25 years Beverleigh Piepers has searched for and found a number of secrets to help you build a healthy body. Go to http://DrugFreeType2Diabetes.com to learn about some of those secrets.

The answer isn't in the endless volumes of available information but in yourself.

Understanding Septic Tank Backup And How To Deal With It

Understanding Septic Tank Backup And How To Deal With It
By Juanita Swindell

Have you suddenly woken up to a clogged drain or backup in the toilet? Septic backup can be caused due to a number of problems and it is often difficult to diagnose the reason for this backup on your own. But don't sit back and hope for the problem to go away on its own because it could mean that your entire septic system is damaged in some way and it may require immediate attention.

Before you try to find the reason for the backup, you should also know how to recognise the backup or any other problem with the system. An unpleasant smell inside your house or near the location of your tank is one way to figure out if something is wrong. You should also look for gurgling noises in the flush or back-ups in the plumbing.

Reasons for Septic Tank Backup

Why are you suddenly getting back-up in your toilets and drains? The most common reason is sludge in the pipes. This can occur if you haven't maintained the system or got it cleaned regularly.

The septic tank may also have broken pipes or a tree roots may have got into cracks in the wall. There may also be other problems like inadequate bacteria or too much grease that has collected somewhere along the line.

How to Deal with Septic Tank Problems

Even if you are tempted to open the system and take a look at it, don't! A septic system is very complicated and it can be very difficult to fix if you make a mistake. The best thing to do is to call a professional to take a look at what is wrong. If you are lucky, it may just be a small problem but even these problems need to be fixed professionally and immediately so that they entire system does not get damaged in the future.

Some common solutions to these problems are:

• Repairing broken drain lines. This can be done by a professional who has a camera that goes through the system and finds the break. Some of them may even use a dye which is sent through the pipes to find the break. If you have a broken pipe, get it replaced immediately and ideally ask for a fibreglass pipe because it lasts much longer than the old concrete or steel pipes.

• Cleaning the tank. Regular cleaning and maintenance of your tank is essential to prevent a number of problems. If it is not pumped or cleaned regularly, tree roots may form cracks in the walls or mud and dirt may build up causing a blockage. The drain field may also have too much solid waste stuck in it. This needs to be pumped regularly so that the drains don't get clogged and backup doesn't start to appear in the various outlets.

Liberty Plumbing and Septic is located in Lakeland, Florida. This team of professionals offer all kinds of plumbing solutions, bathroom remodelling services and septic services for both residential and commercial properties. All these services are conducted by reliable professionals at an affordable price. Also check out our new page on Septic Tank Backup.

Dogs in Church

Dogs in Church
By Tony A Grayson

"Have you seen the woman who brings her dog to church," someone asked me.

"No," I answered. I did not react well to hearing the news. Much public news appears to center around "It's all about me" people who do what they want with no concern for others. Besides that, a Christian church represents the body of Christ, a holy place.

Then, a counter-thought came to mind. Biblical stories brim with allegory. After birth, Mary placed Jesus in a manger (a feeding trough for domestic animals). The Son of God sheltered among domestic animals (in their house), a vulnerable, but protected newborn. How can we not welcome a domestic animal today in the house of the Lord, his house. Yet, a dilemma may accrue from such welcome.

As I understand it, the woman has aged to the point that she barely can come to worship at our church. Her wee dog, a constant companion, gives her love. The animal has become her strength, her source of courage about leaving her house for any purpose. She has passed the point of reason about whether or not her dog can go where she goes. If the dog cannot go, then she will not.

After I heard about the woman and her dog, many church services have happened, yet I have not located her. Someone told me that she arrives late, just before the start of the service, that she sits in the last pew, and that she places the dog at her feet in order to stand and to clap her hands during the singing portions of the church service.

"From habit, the dog shakes itself just after she places it at her feet," someone said. "If you listen carefully, you may hear its tiny chain and tag rattle. Otherwise, you will not know, for the dog never makes a sound."

Just as in any public place, at a restaurant, at the theater, at your child's school play, on a cruise ship, in an airplane, owners, managers, and members have increasingly permitted patrons' animals. Some do that conditionally. Those animals admitted may not all rattle a tiny chain and lay quietly at their owner's feet. Society has become ever more political and vocal, and does not seem to tolerate exceptions. Allow one wee dog in church and the staff will risk a dilemma when dozens of dogs attend church with their owners. What do you think should be done? #TAG1writer.

A Concise Guide to MICR and Associated Technologies

A Concise Guide to MICR and Associated Technologies

By: Charles Katz

The Sort-A-Matic system included 100 metal or leather dividers numbered 00 through 99. Each check was placed in the corresponding divider by the first two numbers of the account. The sorting process was then repeated for the next two digits of the account number, and so on. When the process was complete, the checks were grouped by account number.

Under the Top Tab Key Sort system, small holes punched at the top of the checks indicated the digits. For instance, the first hole indicated the value of the first digits (0, 1, 2, 3...) A metal "key" was inserted through the holes to separate all of the checks with the same value in the first digit, and this step was repeated for each digit until all the checks were sorted.

Both of these systems worked, but they were time-consuming. With the advent of the computer and its movement from the laboratory into the business world, a sorting and matching task seemed ideal. Stanford University and Bank of America were the first to successfully use computers to sort and match checks. They developed what is now known as MICR.

The Development of the MICR Font
The MICR font was developed by Stanford University in conjunction with Bank of America and approved by the American Banking Association. The font is known as the E-13B font. E-13B has a total of 14 characters: ten specially designed numbers (0 through 9) and four special symbols (Transit, Amount, On-Us, and Dash).

The letter E indicates the fifth version considered. The letter B indicates the second revision of that version. The number 13 is derived from the 0.013-inch module construction used for stroke and character width. This means that all character widths, both horizontal and vertical, are in multiples of 0.013 inches ranging from 0.052 to 0.091. The significance of this will be explained more thoroughly later in this article.

MICR Readers
Three types of machines are used to read MICR characters. The two that read the characters magnetically are referred to as MICR readers. The third machine is an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) reader.

E-13B characters are printed with toner containing iron oxide, which is capable of being magnetized. MICR readers transport the checks containing the E-13B magnetic characters past a magnet, thereby magnetizing the iron oxide particles. The magnetized characters then pass under a magnetic read head. The magnetic field (flux pattern) caused by the magnetized characters generates a current in the read head. The strength and timing of this current allows the reader to decipher the characters.

Magnetic readers come in two types: single track (single gap or split scan) and multiple track (matrix or pattern) readers.

Single-Track Reader Characteristics
Single track uses a read head with one gap to detect the magnetic flux pattern generated by the MICR character. When a magnetized E-13B printed character moves across the narrow gap of the read head, the electric voltage caused by the magnetic flux from the character generates a waveform unique to each character.

Multi-Track Reader Characteristics
The multiple track reader employs a matrix of tiny, vertically aligned read heads to detect the presence of the magnetic flux pattern. The small individual read heads slice across the character to detect the presence of magnetic flux. This sensing of magnetic flux over time produces a unique matrix pattern for each character.

An OCR reader does not use magnetic properties to detect the E-13B characters. Instead, it uses a scanner to detect the amount of light reflected from the character and the amount of light reflected from the background. A photocell column detects the presence of the dark area of a character.

Waveform Theory
The readers move and read documents from right to left. The right-hand edge of the character, as a result, is the first to cross the read head. Analysis of the signal level created by reading the character 0 will help explain this in greater detail.

As the character moves from right to left under the read head, the gap detects the magnetism of the first right-hand edge (edge 1). This results in the increase in magnetism and a positive peak is created (peak 1). As soon as the right-hand edge moves beyond the read head gap, no new magnetism is found, and thus the wave form returns to the zero signal level.

At the second edge, the vertical read head detects a drop in magnetism, which results in a -110 signal level at peak 2. Again the waveform returns to zero until the next portion of the inner ring of the character is detected. At this point (peak 3), an increase in magnetism (+110) is indicated. Finally, the outer portion of the character is read, resulting in a negative peak (peak 4) of -130.

The placement of the vertical edges must occur in increments of 0.013 inches from the first right-hand edge. There are five characters that have two positive and two negative peaks similar to the character 0 and also appear in a positive-negative-positive-negative format. They are 0, 2, 4, 5, and the transit character, which are differentiated from one another by the horizontal location of the peaks in the waveforms. The peaks do require different amplitudes, but ANSI standards allow them to vary from 50% to 200% of the nominal amplitudes (Canadian standards allow them to vary from 80% to 200% of the nominal amplitudes). This is why the placement of the waveform is so important and why the characters are shaped unusually.

What Affects the Signal Level?
Signal level can vary based on a number of factors. The amount of iron oxide (concentration) that is present in the character will affect the signal level. This is a function not only of the toner itself, but also of how it is laid on the paper and the pile height, which can be controlled by numerous other cartridge components (i.e., "hot" OPCs).

The taller the vertical edge of the character, the taller the peak (either positive or negative). A vertical edge that is not regular and/or not vertical will result in a reduction in the amplitude of the peak and will flatten the peak out.

Keys to proper waveform detection are:

  • All peaks in a character's waveform must be detected. The reader sorter must know that the peak is there.
  • The peak must be located at or near its anticipated location.
  • No significant "extra" peaks can be present.
  • There cannot be wide variations in the signal levels of peaks within a character.

What to Look for in MICR Printers and Consumables
Printers that are used for MICR printing must have a unique MICR font that is modified to suit the unique printer engine, and it must be modified to the pixel level to match the magnetic toner provided for that printer. This is essential to ensure the correct waveform, dimension, and signal strength when a check is printed with the correct MICR characters. In addition, the MICR font must meet ABA-X9 standards to ensure acceptance of your checks by banking institutions.

The magnetic MICR toner that you choose must be specifically designed for the particular print engine in the printer. Ensure the toner has been thoroughly tested for consistent signal readings, image permanence and uniformity, and excellent edge acuity. Toner coverage must be solid with no extraneous toner lay down.

OEM cartridges are always a safe (but more expensive) bet. If you buy a "compatible" brand, ensure it has a new OPC drum, new primary charge rollers (PCRs), a new black velvet magnetic sleeve, and new image wiper blades. The hopper system must be filled with high-quality, low-abrasion MICR toner.

The vendor you choose should use the latest and most advance MICR test equipment, such as a Verifier and Golden Qualifier to conform to ANSI X9 Standards. It is also recommended that the systems exceed U.S. and Canadian check printing standards.

Barbell Floor Press Challenge Week 47

by

Joseph

I was unable to make it to the gym this week, but I did improvise. I did stair climbing throughout the previous week. This provided me with a cardiovascular workout and thus, helped me to stay active when not weightlifting. Due to the holidays and shortened gym hours, I'll be doing cardio again this week. When I return to the gym, I intend to lift at the weight level of December 5, 2018. I'll keep you posted.

Heading Out on the Road for Some Serious Mountain Biking

Heading Out on the Road for Some Serious Mountain Biking
By Shawna Penton

There is absolutely nothing like heading out on the road with your vehicle and traveling to some gorgeous track somewhere, whipping out your bike, and then doing a spot of mountain biking. If you have a mountain bike then you are going to need to head out on the road. On this page I want to run you through a couple of the things that you will need to think about when heading out on that trip.

Firstly, you are going to need to get an idea of the type of place you want to head. You can do this in a couple of ways. In the past I used to pick up dedicated mountain bike magazines and have a flick through the pages. Most included a fair few maps of trails. However, most of these were not local. Nowadays you can just head online and get all sorts of advice. Do not forget to print off some maps. You are going to need to follow them.

Now, most people head out there with just their mountain bike and a bit of safety equipment. You can do this. However, if you are serious about mountain biking then you may want to take a couple of extra items on the road with you. It will make the trip not only safer, but it is going to be a great deal more enjoyable.

• Your Trail Map. We have already covered this. You need to know where you are going on that trail. Obviously you will want to have a road map too if you have not explored that area before.

• Spare Inner Tube for your wheel. You never know when it could break!

• Bike Repair Kit. This will include a wheel pump; puncture repair kit and various useful tools.

• Your Cell Phone just in case you need to get in touch with somebody.

• A First Aid Kit. I am sure that very few people head out on an epic mountain bike trip without getting a few cuts and scrapes.

• Food and Drink. Do not forget to bring plenty of water!

The last thing that you need to think about is the transportation of your bikes. In my mind, there is one solution that is better than all the others out there. This is the idea of using a bike hitch rack. These are incredibly simple to use. They just slide right onto your hitch and fit in securely. They come in a variety of different sizes allowing you to hold anything from one bike to three or four of them.

Remember, if you are searching for a bike hitch rack then I really do suggest that you carry out a bit of research into the various options available. Do not forget to read a couple of reviews too! After all, you need to make sure that what you pick up is absolutely perfect for the job, right? Remember, you want to keep an eye out for whether a particular rack will work on your vehicle or not.
