Barbell Floor Press Challenge Week 62

by

Joseph

I devoted my workout to flat bench presses last week. Here are the results of the workout:

Tuesday, July 23, 2019

barbell flat bench press

135 lb x 5 reps x 1 set
155 lb x 5 x 4
175 lb x 2 x 1
175 lb x 5 x 2
185 lb x 2 x 1

lateral pulldown neutral grip

150 lb x 6 x 1

The exercises were good; thinking back on it, though, I should have done fewer sets at 155 pounds because it took away steam that I could have used to go for 200-pound presses. I enjoyed the workout immensely, I'm remembering the feel of the Olympic bar in my hands, the medium spaced grip and the placement of my feet on the floor.

When I return to the gym, I'll do one warm-up set, then go for 200-pound presses incrementally increasing the weight to 225 pounds. I've got the strength for it. Last week, I did lat pulldowns as a filler, and I'll do some lat pulldowns next time.

I'll also be adding deadlifts into my workout regimen; it has been a long long time since I've deadlifted, and I miss this exercise very much.

When I get back to the gym this week, I will be lifting heavy.

I'll keep you posted.

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear ; do not be frightened." 1 Peter 3:14

Barbell Floor Press Challenge Week 61

by

When I went to the gym last Tuesday, I decided to do things a bit differently. Here are the results of the workout:

Tuesday, July 16, 2019

standing barbell overhead press with Olympic bar

135 lb x 0 x 1 <---- floor to forehead but that's it
115 lb x 1 x 40s
135 x 1 x 0 <------ floor to forehead only

barbell flat bench press (w/o smith machine)

115 lb x7x5
135 lb x5x3
135 lb x3x2

Even though I was finally able to get an Olympic bar, I just didn't feel like doing overhead presses. Mentally I did not want to do them. So I put the bar back on the flat bench rack and started doing bench presses. This is the first time in many years that I've used a flat bench; not since the days of my old gym have I done this particular exercise. This series was started to record my flat bench progress, largely because I did not feel comfortable using a smith machine to flat bench.

When I joined this new gym, I went through a light set with just the Olympic bar and I did not do very well, my balance was way off, so I set about doing other exercises. Now I'm going to get my flat bench numbers back up to where they're supposed to be. Back at my old gym I did the flat bench at 260 pounds unassisted; I will surpass that amount at this gym.

Later I'll do overhead presses again; this happened from time to time all those years ago at my old gym.  When I get back to the gym this week, I'll be lifting heavy.

I'll keep you posted.

Barbell Floor Press Challenge Week 60

by

Joseph

I made it to the gym last Saturday, and the place was more crowded than during the week. Here are the results of the workout:

Saturday, July 13, 2019

machine iso-lateral high row

320 lb (or 160 in each hand separately x5x4, right, 160 lb each hand x5x4 left,
standing fixed barbell overhead press and hold

110 x 5x25s

dumbbell row

70 lb x10x4

All of the Olympic bars were in use, so I made best use of the equipment available. Hopefully, I can get access to one of the Olympic bars when I get back to the gym this week.

When I exercise again, I'll be lifting heavy weights.

I'll keep you posted.

Barbell Floor Press Cardiovascular Training Workout

by

Joseph

I did not go to the gym last week, but I  still found time to exercise. I decided to write this entry about mowing my lawn with a manual mower. It takes a great deal more effort to cut grass using your own power rather than a gas powered machine. I am grateful for functional strength, being able to move about and do things because there are millions upon millions of people who are unable to do so.

When I return to the gym, I'll be lifting heavy again.

I'll keep you posted.

Getting Rid of Earwigs Naturally

Getting Rid of Earwigs Naturally
By Paul T. McCoy

Beliefs about earwigs are certainly not true. They said that earwigs got its name because it enters the human brain through the ears. Earwigs are not dangerous and they do not enter the brain. They are insects that crawl in your house especially if you have stored fruits and vegetable - earwigs are attracted to them.

Earwigs do not reside inside your home. They just crawl inside your home. To prevent them from entering your home, check your windows and doors of any opening that serves as their entry point. Earwigs like moist and damp places. They hide in dark areas outdoor. To avoid earwigs around your home, take away logs, leaves and other dirt. If the infestation is serious, putting stones around the house may help. Bird baths and bird feeders may also eliminate earwigs because they eat them. If earwigs are destroying your plants, a can of vegetable oil or bacon grease can eliminate them.

Using pesticides may help eliminate them, but you need to let them in first before killing them. Here are other ways of eliminating earwigs in your home.

    • Keep green plants away. Earwigs like plants, fruits and vegetables so it is best to keep plants away from your home. Earwigs infest your plants and if you happen to take the plants inside your home, you are also taking the earwigs with you. Earwigs can destruct your home and furniture. Watering your plants is also favorable for earwigs because they like damp and moist areas. Spraying water with soap can eliminate earwigs from the plants.

    • Make use of vapor lights. Avoid using white lights because they attract earwigs but if you want to catch them - then using white light is advisable. Place a can with soapy water under the light so earwigs will fall into it and drown themselves.

    • Use paper traps. Dampening a newspaper with water or vegetable oil is effective in catching earwigs. Roll the newspaper with a rubber band and place it where earwigs are frequent. Earwigs will crawl inside the newspaper and will die there because they cannot bring themselves out anymore. Throw away the newspaper every morning and remember not to use them as compost for your garden.

    • Dry moist areas in your home. Check all areas in the house such as pool, ponds, bird bath and fountains. Dry them to avoid earwig infestation. Since earwigs are attracted to moist and damp, they will stay away from these areas thus eliminating them around your house.

    • Boric acid. Use boric acid to naturally kill earwigs. Applying them in your home can be very effective in getting rid of earwigs. Apply boric acid on areas where earwigs pass by like windows, doors, holes, floor, etc. While boric acid is effective in killing insects, be careful in using them because it can be dangerous for children and other pets in the house. Apply it in places that are not accessible for children and pets. If you need to store them, place them where they can't be easily reach.

    • Maintain your house clean. A clean house will not just prevent earwigs but other insects and pests as well. Make sure that your house is clean to avoid pest's infestation. Also, after eliminating the earwigs, maintain the cleanliness of your house so they won't keep coming back.

  • Eliminate earwig's hiding place. This includes the areas such as log piles, leaf or trunk debris, and stepping stones in your garden.

Although earwigs are not dangerous, you should be careful not to touch them because their bite can be very painful. They usually hide on daytime so use your traps at night when they go out of their place. In some cases, earwigs can be advantageous in the garden because they kill other insects in the garden such as snails, aphids, and other night pests. They do not cause any disease but is really creepy to look at. There are a total of 22 types of earwigs only in the United States. They eat fruits, vegetables, insects and molds. Sealing the cracks and holes in your home can prevent them from going in and affect your living.

It can be tough to identify the insect that is bothering you. Contact HonorGuard Pest Management to get help with identifying and eliminating pests.

5 Effective Ways To Prevent Dog Diabetes

5 Effective Ways To Prevent Dog Diabetes
By Mary L. James

Did you know that there is a whopping 80 percent increase in dog diabetes since the year 2006? Unfortunately, this health problem is very common in canines. According to a veterinanrian in Florida's BluePearl Veterinary Partners, Dr. Anthony Ishak, diabetes is not always prevented in canines. If your fur baby does develop the disease later on, there are many ways how you can help him manage the health problem properly and make it easier for him.

Here are 5 effective ways to prevent diabetes in dogs:

Don't miss your routine check ups

Routine check ups are very important to ensure that your pet is in a healthy state, so don't miss them. If your dog is recommended for a blood test, a vaccination or even just a follow-up visit to the vet then you must show up. Also, don't hesitate to ask advice from your veterinarian if you notice any changes in your dog's appetite, behavior, thirst, urine or poop habits to make sure they're not symptoms of a major health problem. According to Dr. Ishak, many diseases like pancreatitis and Cushing's disease increases a canine's chance of developing diabetes.

Keep your pet physically active

Experts say that regular exercise helps lower the chance of diabetes in both humans and dogs. Exercise helps your pet maintain a healthy weight and regulate his blood sugar levels which greatly contributes to both prevention and management of the disease. A daily walk and some free time to run and play out in the yard or at the park should do it.

Get your female pet spayed

Hormone fluctuations play a role in the risk of the disease. Get female dogs spayed - this does not only help prevent the condition but also lowers the chance of her developing other health problems.

Consider dog food quality

Dogs who eat a high protein diet are less likely to develop the disease compared to those who mostly consume simple carbohydrates in their dog food. A diet rich in protein helps stabilize your pet's blood sugar levels therefore lowers the chance of developing diabetes. When buying dog food, consider the quality of the ingredients used.

Feed your dog more fruits and vegetables

This is a no brainer - eating a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables is the best way to prevent or manage most health problems, including diabetes. Consider making homemade dog food and treats to make sure your pet is eating healthy.

To prevent or manage dog diabetes, simply follow these tips!

Revealed: The Ultimate Lead Generation Tool

Revealed: The Ultimate Lead Generation Tool

By: Peter Lawless

Create a Referral Strategy
The strategy that I am referring to is a referral strategy. Most importantly, ask them for a referral! For those of you married or with partners, think back to when you met them. Were you with someone you know, was there a connection to someone you know - or were they complete strangers that you just walked up to?

Most businesses will tell you that they do really well due to word of mouth. How well do they do? Most can't quantify it. In addition very few have implemented any formal process or strategy to ensure a referral system is in place.

A Referral Strategy in Practice
Let me share with you a simple strategy, which was put in place by a service garage. You should strongly consider a variant of this strategy for your own business. The garage owner created a simple card, which outlined in 5 short bullets, why they were a great place to get your car service done.

They gave this form to all people who had just had their car serviced. There were two blank spaces on the form. The first one entitled the person whose name was filled in to a 10% discount on their next car service. The second space was for the person who had just had a service.

If the card was used, that person then got a 10% discount as well. In other words there was an incentive to pass on the referral. In addition, there was also a strong subliminal message to the person being referred. They were being told that not only had the referrer had their car serviced and that they were happy with it, they also were prepared to go back again to get their 10% discount.

Create a Referral Strategy Today:
1. List all of your existing customers and categorize them by niche.
2. Ask yourself, what incentive you can give them to send you leads.
3. Set yourself a target of how many referrals you are looking for from each customer.
4. Do it, and measure it.
5. Once you know what works, and what doesn't - modify your system accordingly.

An opportunity lost, could be an opportunity gained.
There is one other great place to get referrals. And that is from the prospects that don't become customers. Let's assume you lose the sale, for whatever reason. You must remember that there is actually good in all people! When they tell you have lost, be nice and understanding, you may do business again at a later stage. Most importantly, ask them for a referral. The chances are, human nature, will kick in and they can absolve their conscience by giving you a referral.

Barbell Floor Press Challenge Week 59

by

Joseph

I had a good workout last week. Here are the results:

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

lateral pulldown neutral grip
150x5x5

standing fixed barbell overhead press and hold

110 x 5x25s

inclined pushups

20x1

It was a crowded, busy day at the gym, and several of the machines, as well as the Olympic bars, were being used by other members. Not to be deterred, I made do with what was available.

It has been some time since I did a barbell press and hold; 110 pounds is lightweight for me, but it did provide for some pressing exercises. I started out with neutral grip lateral pulldowns because that station was the only one open at the time, and I needed to be doing something. I should have done more sets, but I wanted to d some overhead presses, so I stopped with five. I rounded the day out with twenty inclined pushups.

When I get back to the gym, I'll be doing more overhead presses - hopefully with the Olympic bar.

I'll keep you posted.
